Announcements

Spookality!!!

The Spookality Jam has begun!

We announced it last time, but we just want to keep it fresh in your mind while it’s going on. Here are the important dates:

  • Submissions Open: Sept 3 - Oct 1
  • Judging Period: Oct 2 - Oct 15
  • Showcase Period: Oct 16 - Nov 2

Also, once again, in the spirit of the jam, we’ve decided to feature ALL eligible entries in the Home/Hub world for Spookality, even if they didn’t win a prize.

VRChat Partners With Crisis Text Line

VRChat has partnered with Crisis Text Line – a nonprofit that provides text-based support for anyone in crisis. The Crisis Text Line is supported by trained volunteer Crisis Counselors who are there to listen without judgment, no matter what you’re going through.

Using the Crisis Text Line is easy – just text VRChat to 741741. Volunteers can communicate in either English or Spanish.

“Crisis” can mean more than thinking about ending your own life or harming yourself. Support is available, no matter what emotion you’re dealing with, and no matter when you need support.

Your mental health is important to us. We want to make it as easy and fast as possible for you to get the help you need, or to help a friend or loved one get help.

For more information, you can read a transcript of the above video here. You can also directly go to our Crisis Resource Page here.

Creators Roadmap August 2026 Update

We updated the Creators Roadmap last week!

You can see it here.

There’s a lot in there! There are three brand new things on our roadmap that weren’t there previously, including Portal Drop Zones, which weren’t previously mentioned.

Go check 'em out.

2026.3.3 is in Open Beta!

Yesterday, we pushed 2026.3.3 to Open Beta! This release has a bunch of notable changes (and fixes).

Desktop HUD!

Desktop users now have a new Heads Up Display (HUD)!

Common actions have been given their own clickable HUD buttons in the top left and right corners of the screen.

Holding TAB while in first person mode will release your mouse cursor and allow you to interact with the HUD. You can also hold TAB to select players, portals, props and prints.

The new Desktop HUD has a lot of tricks:

  • You can dock your face mirror to the upper right corner, alongside a background… or no background, if you’d prefer.
  • We added some contextual control hints to the right side of the HUD that should help newer users out.
  • Notifications have also been given a new coat of paint.
  • We’ve added a bunch of customization options, so you can set things up how you’d like.
    • Yes, this still includes turning it off completely.
  • For now, this only applies to desktop users – not VR or mobile users.

We think this will make the new user experience a lot better, more familiar, and less confusing.

Keyboard Refresh!

We’ve refreshed the in-app keyboard!

It has broken free of its shackles (well, the Main Menu within VR) and now can be freely positioned to your liking. It’s also been remodeled (design wise!) a little bit, too.

It’s also far more adjustable:

  • It can be free-positioned by pressing grab while hovering over it with the cursor.
  • Drop it by the selected field to dock it with the menu. Next time you focus a text field, it’ll remember what distance it was.
  • Alternatively, you can pull it out away from the menu to dock it in your tracking space instead.
  • You can also adjust its size by clicking and dragging the tabs on the bottom corners.

But that’s not all! We’ve also added next-word prediction, which suggests words you’ve typed before.

  • Click a suggested word to complete your current word immediately!
  • History data is stored locally per-user in persistent data, never uploaded.
  • Suggestions are automatically disabled in Streamer Mode, and when a PIN/Password field is focused.

Profile Decorations Shop

We added a new “Profile Decorations” tab to the VRChat Shop.

  • You can now purchase individual decorations from a set instead of the entire bundle.
  • Filter by decoration type to browse all Icon Frames, Profile Effects, or Nameplate Themes.
  • Fancy new live previews of how decorations will look on your profile and nameplate!

This also came with a new navigation bar for the VRChat Shop, along with dropdowns. We also consolidated “World Stores” and “Group Stores” under a new “Community” tab.

Other Changes!

There are a lot of other cool things in 3.3. For example:

  • We rewrote how we handle user data. This is a under-the-hood change, but it should make a lot of systems more stable, efficient, and reliable.
  • We made it so Looks are remembered, per-avatar. In general, there are a bunch of improvements to Looks/Accessories.
  • We added a new “Net Tools” debugging page. This should help creators figure out what’s going wrong a lot easier.
  • We made a few improvements to contact receivers!

It’s not super visible yet (because it’s mostly for mobile!) but this release will also bring a completely new login flow for mobile users. This is actually a huge deal, as it’s a huge improvement for new users. We think it’ll make it better for everyone, though.

Likewise, this release will also bring the VRChat Shop to Android mobile, which is obviously another big deal for us.

…and more! Read about it here.

Group Nameplate Banners

We are working diligently to get the separate upload slot for Nameplate banners ready for you, but in the meantime the template that we posted earlier is currently the live template that we’ve been using.

Groups can use this now to make their nameplates consistent.

Closing

That’s it for this week! See you in another two weeks.

New HUD for desktop sounds awesome. Is there a plan for the ability to turn on HUD smoothing or other OLED-care options for it? I have an OLED monitor and really want those options back. They used to be available on desktop, but they were made VR only at some point.

IIRC, this Group Banner Template be bit off from actual, is that fixed since last time?

I’m glad there’s finally an official group banner template, but why is there so much bleed?

Will the template be made available in the website UI? Or will I have to search for it

When will you add vrchat custom picture film for anyone to use and customise however we like to?

Man we’re getting the Second Life update before we get the preferred left hand interaction. That would honestly improve my immersion so much faster than overhauling the HUD on desktop. I’m a lefty I have no way to represent that in desktop mode

The new HUD has a lot of potential but I don’t think it’s ready.
I don’t like how far my eyes have to travel to see my mute icon, and I like having my face mirror in the center so when I look at it, the webcam face tracking doesn’t make me look off to the side, and there aren’t good options for that yet.

Does anyone else find it weird that they aren’t showing any pictures of the new Desktop HUD in the Developer Update? I came here to see what was different only to find them hiding it from us for some unknown reason

The new HUD is really promising, but I’m just missing the option to use it on the bottom side of the screen instead of the upper side. Are there more customization options for the HUD planned?

Any news on the pasting images to prints? I need my meme machine thanks in advance

Currently I am not a big fan of the new hud, as it feels more like something you would create for a mobile touch screen, it does not meet the purpose for desktop at all and it feels too over whelming to look at. The only info I need on my screen really is my mute button icon to know when I am and am not muted and my face mirror, everything else feels very redundant, like, why do I need an icon that’s labeled esc. Some of these icons can be helpful in telling you pressing r will open the action menu or that pressing y opens the chatbox for example. But that is stuff you would reserve to a tutorial process where you are teaching the user of these things.

How super fast you managed to add an unwanted tab? Great! :+1:

So the overhaul of the world details page should go super quickly now too, right? After all, thousands of users have been wanting that change for years. You’ll be done next week, won’t you?

Yeah this new HUD update is hell for OLED users…

In other news, a VRChat build for Android (Steam Frame) was updated three hours ago.

https://steamdb.info/depot/438102/manifests/

https://steamdb.info/depot/438102/history/

The first manifest ID only displayed a placeholder “under construction” message to check back later.

I wonder what’s changed?

I tested this. You can now (theoretically) login on the Steam Frame natively with the latest Android build from Steam, without the need for FEX (x86 to ARM translation).

Monado + OpenXR Runtime Broker + VRChat.apk on an Android smartphone. I don’t have an input device setup on my mobile phone to actually login, and no access to a Steam Frame developer kit.

I also tested the old manifest ID from 2 months ago. It’s still displaying the “Under Construction” message.

I really hate the Robloxified desktop UI. (I also hated when Roblox did it to their own UI, like 10 years ago?) What is the point of making a VR game tablet friendly? Why are we creating a visual divide between desktop and VR users? I feel like we have completely lost the plot at this point.

Edit: Also still no statement on AI content even though the 5 top posts in Feature Requests on the Canny are all about AI content is wild. Every day that goes by without anything being done is bad.

I’ve ran into a few issues today when I played for a few hours with the new chat box and other updates that were released today.

  1. The chat box and send button are two different panels for some reason now. They should be one panel. Why isn’t the “send” button on the keyboard anymore? I couldn’t find a way to combine them. Being able to move the keyboard is great, and aside from it messing up my muscle memory, it’s annoying that when I open the chat box, two panels show up, one with the send button and the other with the actual keyboard.. and only one of them can be moved. I found this very annoying as a typing/sign language primary user.

  2. It’s annoying that numbers are in the caps lock/modifier key, instead of at the top like a full-sized keyboard. Please make a setting to combine the numbers with the default layout instead of having to use shift/the alternate layout key just to press a single number. At this point its easier to type the word of the number than to hit the modifier keys to get to the other set of keys and find the number. I liked it better when the modifier key was only for capitalization/special characters.

  3. I have myself set to cloning off. For some reason, when I go to my uploaded avatars and hit “Apply”, it says “this user has their cloning off”. I have to go into the information of the avatar and then hit apply to change between my own avatars now, because the “quick apply” button in my avatar menu shows that message if I have my cloning off.

  4. It’d be nice to have a way to “lock” the keyboard size/position, and have a good way for the game to remember it on relog, for the sake of muscle memory.

That’s just the issues I’ve found on the update today, and I played with friends for a good 4ish hours.
