[Quest VRChat] Did you manage to use the in-game chatbox with any bluetooth keyboards in game?

Greetings !

I recently started using directly my oculus Quest 3 in order to benefit from the not-so-anymore new hand tracking feature, which proves to be an incredible help for sign language users.

There’s also the possibility to connect the headset with a bluetooth keyboard. For my instance, I use the Logitech MX Keys S. This could help a lot to send messages and not struggling by typing in VR. To my surprise, even by opening the Oculus Quest VRChat app, I can still use the keyboard to move (WASD), rotate (, .) the character, use the contextual menu (R), and open the chatbox (Y)

The problem that I am facing now is the VRC chatbox itself does not recognize the keyboard. I could press any keys I want, there’s no influence on the typo. I also notice I can’t move nor rotate the character anymore, as long as the VRC chatbox input is still open.

I am aware this “problem” may seem very specific, thus I would like to ask if anyone else here also faced the same issue ? Is it planned to be fixed in the following updates ?

This is a very odd occurance… Something you can do in order to test this issue is checking other use cases where it replaces an in world keyboard (Browser Searches, Quest Playstore, Other games with typing interfaces)
Getting an understanding on if this is a unique issue or consistant one will let you know if it’s VRC or the headset/keyboard compatability.

I just tried this on my Quest 3S and a Logitech Unify keyboard. Works in most places except vrchat text input. Please file a bug report and link it here.

Thank you very much for your feedback !

Considering it is indeed a bug, I have attempted to file a bug report. Yet I am supposedly not allowed to do so.

Your account is not yet permitted to use Canny.

If anyone else is allowed to do so, here’s the report I wanted to send out :

Title :
[VRChat on Quest] VRC text inputs do not recognize bluetooth keyboards.

TLDR :
When playing on VRC on Quest, we can't use our bluetooth keyboards on the VRC text inputs.

To reproduce the experiment :
1. From Oculus Quest (tested on 3 and 3s), link your headset with a compatible bluetooth keyboard (tested on Logitech MX Keys S and Logitech Unify keyboard).
2. Launch VRChat from the Quest headset.
3. For any text inputs (log-in, search, chatbox), use the keyboard to type.

What happens from the experiment :
- The text box don't detect inputs from the keyboard.
- Although we could move, rotate and interact in game with our keyboard, we couldn't use the keyboard anymore unless the text input goes off.

Additionnal informations :
- The keyboard works in the game, even while browsing other apps in the meantime. The game detects the keyboard, as we can move (WASD), rotate (, .), open the menu (esc) and the contextual menu (R), only the text inputs (chatbox, log in, search) don't.
- Fixing the bug would benefit a lot on ergonomics, and thus on overall VR experience from Quest users.

Submitted.

I slightly edited the text to clarify that I’m using a USB keyboard. I didn’t clarify exact model but I just looked it up and I have a Logitech K400
