Failure to connect to homeworld and game in general (solved)

When I attempt to open vrchat, it fails to load my homeworld. It gets stuck on the connecting screen for a bit and then shows a connection error and tells me to verify my connection and try again. I assumed it was a cache issue at first so I cleared my cache folder and tried again, but it persisted. So then I assumed it was a vr issue, but when I opened the game from steam in non-vr mode, it still happens. As far as I know, my internet connection is perfectly stable as well. Its been happening for a while now and has made it completely impossible to play the game. Any insight at all would be extremely helpful as I haven’t the slightest what the problem could be. Thank you in advance.

-wanted to come back and update this post as I believe I have located the cause and solution to this issue just incase anyone else is struggling. At first I was not able to log into my homeworld, which seemed to spontaneously fix itself, but I was then unable to join any other worlds. I immediately thought “ok easy, cache issue” but after clearing my cache and world data multiple times, no fix. The problem only went away after I completely cleared my local data. I believe the cause of the issue was a corrupt file that had come about somewhere and was causing problems. I have reason to believe that this came from a very poorly optimized avatar that I had been using for quite some time. And when I say poorly optimized, I don’t mean like the normal amount of poorly optimized like most avatars are, I mean POORLY optimized. Im 90% sure that if you plugged this avatar into blender and checked its meshes, it would be solid purple. I was practically walking around with a gamecrasher on without even realizing it. I don’t know for sure if it was the cause, but I know after taking the avatar off, unfavoriting it, and resetting my local data, most of the problems went away. I did get one connectivity error again after reloading the game, but none after that. I hope this helped anyone else struggling from this issue.

Hello, did that error happend out of nowhere or do you know if something changed recently. USually it’s a connectivity issue that can come from a VPN, a faulty or annoying router, limitations if on a community network (university and sort). Can you give us some details that would have potentially changed ?

Hi, thank you for responding. And no, I don’t use a VPN at all, and I use a home internet connection. I recently had an internet outage for a bit, but i’m pretty sure the issue was occurring beforehand. It certainly seemed like the issue had just started happening out of nowhere. I little bit back I was able to get into the game after waiting and retrying for about an hour out of spite, but I’ve had no luck since. I will say that my provider has a reputation from what I’ve heard from other people in my area of it being weird occasionally, which wouldn’t be as concerning to me if the problem hadn’t been happening for atleast three weeks now give or take. As I mentioned previously about my internet going out for a bit, It turned out to be a fiber optic issue and was fixed pretty quickly, which I assumed would fix the issue but it didn’t. Also to add to this, I looked through my VRchat file to see if I could see the specifications of the error and it does say its a clientside error, but as far as internet goes, VRchat seems to be the only thing affected by it, as all of my other online games both on steam and otherwise function just fine. I’m sorry if i’m not being super helpful but I’ve got not many more details than you and this has me genuinely stumped.

Hello, since my last reply I have been able to log into VRchat 3 time consecutively. It seems the problem did just fix itself, atleast for the time being. I’m assuming that it was probably, as you stated, something to do with my connection, and has only just now worked itself out. Thank you for all of your assistance.
