Suddenly unable to upload avatars

Greetings,

I have uploaded and edited around 20 avatars succesfully. I am by no means a pro at working with unity, but I understand the basics.

Suddenly, as of late, whenever I want to upload an avatar unity gives me several errors including:

  • Too many bones
  • Too many textures
  • file size too large (150+ MBs)

This happens with every avatar I try to upload, quest + pc avis.

I opened a project file with an avatar I already have uploaded, didn’t change anything to the avatar and checked if I would be able to upload it (even though I already have it uploaded), but I now get the same error messages.

Does anyone know a solution to this?

I don’t have unity open right now, but you should take careful note to the icons next to those messages.

VRChat has performance ranks, and I’ve noticed that the SDK panel has a bit of like, you have 401 bones, wouldn’t things be so much cooler if you had checks list 400? oh now there are 300 bones, wouldn’t things be sooooo much cooler if you had less than 256 bones?

Or maybe its suggesting 75 the whole time. (I usually have unity open, but not right now)

The file size being too large is an actual hard limit, but I’ve seen that message when i build a PC avatar, and then switch to Android, the SDK will look at the last built avatar, and say something if its larger than 10mb. So when I switch from PC to Android, I know to disregard that little warning icon.
