Now that Roblox is coming to PS4 (PSVR) and PS5 (PSVR 2), is there a chance VR Chat could arrive one day too?

So… hardware was never a problem for VR Chat coming to PS4 as the base PS4 from 2013 has much more powerful hardware than the Oculus Quest or Oculus Quest 2 and so PSVR games generally have more graphical detail in their PSVR or PCVR versions than in the standalone Quest 1/2.

But user-generated content was a problem from what I saw some people commenting on some posts. (although I never really understood this issue since there is Dreams on PS4 and PS5 with creations from other companies like Mario, Zelda, Sonic and even using assets, music and sound effects from other games like Sonic Venture: https://youtu.be/NEjq9M-jjQ0 Sonic Vs Blaze. RUSH FNF https://youtu.be/j0A0LBOjaxA Super Mario: Heart of Stars: https://youtu.be/xsl6usmQXoQ?si=Wp1jZF0FZg55ESvi&t=556 and practically a perfect port of Undertale: https://youtu.be/26XxENDI4K0 ).

But now Roblox, a game that practically sustains itself with user generated content is coming to both PS4 and PS5 (and also the Oculus Quest 2), if Sony allowed this, maybe it will allow VR Chat too?

I would really like developers to consider this, the original PSVR despite being old is still an excellent VR platform and can be found used for $70 in some places and the PSVR 2 is a great deal for anyone who owns a PS5 especially due to the specs Although it is much better than other headsets like the Quest 2, I really wish developers would stop ignoring the PSVR playerbase, everyone would benefit from this.

Personally I’m on the fence if the mobile client is now too many versions.

I am amused by the dichotomy between being listed in the play store and avoiding crashes vs allowing users to run very poor avatars and run out of memory

I would love to see a PSVR or PSVR 2 version, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon especially now that they are busy developing an Android version.

Other platforms work because they have custom-developed platform-independent formats and editors for their content creation.

VRChat is dependent on the Unity Editor for custom content, and at the moment each platform requires a separate build of that content. Building PS5 content in the Unity Editor requires the creator to buy Unity Pro (which is expensive) and for them to register with Sony as a developer.

I feel it’s unlikely you will ever see VRChat on the Playsatation unless the above changes.

With the SDK3.3.0 they’re headed in the right direction.

The main thing the editor needs for android support is the ability to generate and preview ASTC and ETC textures, the rest could be handled under the hood.

Custom Shaders would be difficult to handle, but maybe can build things with the current mobile shaders, and some others.

I’m hoping for a future where I make an avatar within certain limitations and then with one click I can upload for all the platforms I desire. We’ll see how close it gets.

I own one and I completely agree, the content is just a bit bland, it wont even let me mod beat saber!

Roblox should not have done this, I have a bad experience with teens who behaved toxic to me.
