Last year, one of the major requests I’ve made on the feedback website for a Stylized Shader for Mobile was finally implemented as at the time I felt the SDK lacked a custom shader for people on mobile hardware. The thought I had was more of a consideration for avatar makers on PC that used shaders like Poiyomi or liltoon to be able to make their Quest/Mobile versions nearly match their PC counterparts as well as making the models look more stylized than using the mobile optimized versions of existing Unity shaders found within the SDK.
With this being said, the reason for making this post is that I, as someone who has made content in the past that has made custom avatars to show off the things you could possibly do in the game, feel as though this year I’d honestly like to see VRChat in 2026 do more to increase a lot of creative potential whether it’s adding new features to existing components like a Selective Touch option (Local to anyone that touches it) for Contacts, A Box/Cube based Contact, More Constraint types based on Unity’s Animation Rigging system, or a Physbone Sucker, or new stuff like components that output transform values for animators/shaders, adding Graphics.Blit components to avatars (something for VRC shader authors), and VRChat Cloth Component, to minor quality of life stuff like adjusting the number of bits for parameters in the SDK (integers use a full 8 bit), adding Blinking, Eye Look/Tracking, Visemes As Float, and Selfie Expression (for VR) parameters.
I am aware I gave a long list of things based on stuff posted and proposed from the feedback website. As an avatar maker, I feel there is a lot more potential the avatars SDK is willing to provide to us in the future, including things for shader authors who make things for us to put on our avatars, as from my personal experience we have been a bit lacking in this department for quite some time. There are a lot of ways to make our models more optimized and be creative with them, but the current system can only go so far unless we get new things added to it. To make these things available to us would be beneficial for VRChat’s growth so those that make avatars (and shaders) can not only do it in an optimized manner, but extend our potential and attract more users to things like the Avatar Market or get them to become part of the growing community at large. Apologies if this is a bit much, but figured I’d at least get some sort of discussion going.
