High cpu frametimes in virtual desktop on a 12700kf. Did not have this issue until last update

I normally wouldn’t ask for help but I’m at a loss. I’m not sure if it was the update that broke performance, but I can’t think of anything else that changed. Basically my cpu frametime is high for no reason all of the sudden. I used to play this game max settings locked 90 at almost all times with 130% resolution on my specs. Now suddenly I keep stuttering down into the 60s. I’ve noticed no decrease in performance in any other game vr or flatscreen.

I included a video where I turned all settings on low and decreased resolution to 20% and I still get the same hitching. You can see my CPU frametime spike up and down. This also happens on flat screen mode. Where it runs at above 200 frames for awhile, then it dips to under 100 frames for seemingly no reason. It’s unplayable. Hoping for some help. This might be odd, but can you make sure that you’re not focusing the VRChat window on your desktop? Focus on another window like Explorer or a web browser instead.

I’ve had issues where whilst the VRChat window is focused, it results in a significant performance degradation. I thought I was going nuts, but this ended up working for me, at least as a temporary solution. I’m not sure which update this came with, but it happened randomly for me.

I did notice that when I was in VR that the frametime went back to normal as soon as I clicked off the screen. Didn’t put that together in my head I guess. No idea why that would be though. I’ll have to look more into it when I get home.

Hate to keep replying to my thread but turns out I did not find a solution. So strange, it ran perfect for about 10 minutes before doing this behavior again. I’ve changed power modes, updated bios, tried disconnecting monitors, disabled hags, updated chipset drivers, Nothing.

In virtual desktop performance monitor my game frametime ms stay locked at around 7 until suddenly it doubles to 14 and my frames start to drop. Strangely when I open steam vr the frametime drops all the way to 2 ms and frames lock at 90 despite it still rendering the game in the background at the same resolution. As soon as I go back to the game my frames tank again. I’m at a loss. I’ve done everything short of replacing my cpu and no difference.

This doesn’t happen on my friends amd machine, and the internet is sparce on info. Maybe someone will have something to try, or the update screwed something up and it’ll get fixed eventually, but for now. I give up. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using an AMD GPU by chance? If so, try adding `–enable-amd-stutter-workaround` to your launch options for VRChat in Steam.

No 5070 ti. Tried just about every steam launch option for high priority and no change.

Well inexplicably the latest NVidia driver fixed the issue. Very strange cause I rolled back to the last driver that I knew worked once this started happening. Gotta love computers.
