I created a private, friends + instance last night. A person had joined off a friend in that instance, and blasted music. I shrugged and muted them, they proceeded to block anyone who had muted them. Most were unable to see that person so I kicked them. They then told the friend they joined off of that I could get IP banned and I now have a strike against my account. My question is this, can I get IP banned for kicking people from a private instance, and is there really a strike against my account? I did already put a moderation report about it, but I can’t even be sure if they themselves are a moderator for Vrchat.
Impersonating VRChat staff is actually a rule that people agree to not break under ToS, so good for reporting them.
I guess if they block you, that is kind of like a teeny tiny micro-strike against your account?
Philosophy!
Edit: forgot to write: (you’re fine)
Thank you for answering, I’m unsure if they are impersonating a Vrchat moderator as they made subtile hints towards being one saying things like, ‘Im placing a strike against her account.’ and ‘I could have IP banned her, but I’m being nice.’ Just enough for me to clue in on what their hinting at, I guess.
I have a habit of reading most of the bug and feature requests that are submitted. If you’re ever wondering if someone is actually VRChat staff, try blocking them. But I’m pretty sure it’d be obvious.
Someone filed a complaint that they couldn’t mute a staff member.
That person is basically stepping around the rule. And just bull crapping
But who knows, maybe their uncle does work for Nintendo?
Uhhh hey @tupper what does a VRChat staff look like in game?
It depends on the person. Most don’t run around identifying themselves as team members.
There is a badge for the VRChat team, but not everyone uses it, and some may choose not to display it.
Also, VRChat team members do not use administrative accounts for normal usage. They only use them for testing. You might sometimes run into an admin account if we need to test something that requires players (testing networking or NetIK fidelity or whatever), but that’s pretty rare.
That means that you can block, mute, whatever team members just like other players. (please don’t, i promise we’re nice)
Either way, @ashie , I can basically guarantee whoever that was, was not a VRChat team member. Block them, and feel free to report them for impersonating developers, as well.
Thank you for the response, I have already made a moderation report with the screenshots I gathered.
I did look through their badges, and the official discord as well, didn’t get anything back. I will leave it as a block. Thank you again Tupper.
I’d like to take a moment to provide a more in-depth response to this topic and extend my gratitude to @Tupper for being one of the most dedicated and transparent VRChat Team Members. Your hard work and open communication with the community are genuinely appreciated.
This post is intended as a comprehensive guide for anyone seeking assistance or clarification in identifying official VRChat employees:
How to Identify VRChat Employees
VRChat employees have distinct identifiers that set them apart from regular users. Here’s what to look for:
-
Trusted Tag
- Instead of the usual user tags like Nuisance, Visitor, New User, User, Known User, or Trusted User, VRChat employees will display tags such as Administrator or VRChat Team prominently next to their avatar status.
-
Employee Badge
- Official VRChat employees will also have a unique badge on their account. You can find detailed information about these badges on the VRChat Wiki: VRChat Badges.
-
Membership in Official Groups
- Most VRChat employees are part of an official group called VRChat Team. This group is identifiable by the code VRCHAT.0000, which is an additional indicator of authenticity.
-
Profiles on VRChat’s Website
- Certain administrators, such as Sacheverell, will have their roles and status clearly displayed on their official VRChat profile on the website. Here’s an example of what this might look like:
(Note: The example image features a former employee who is no longer part of the team but has made significant contributions to VRChat’s success.)
Additional Resources for Verification
If you’re unsure about someone’s legitimacy as a VRChat employee, consider the following resources:
- VRChat Ask Forum - Employee Directory
- The VRChat Ask Forum hosts a group dedicated to employees, which you can view here: VRChat Team Members. While this list may not include all employees, it’s a great starting point for verifying official team members.
Contact the moderation team at vrch.at/moderation or join the discussion and ask questions on the official Discord server at discord.gg/vrchat.
- 2 Known Employees
-2 VRChat employees, such as Eliminated or Aliquem, are highly visible within the community and frequently engage directly with users. Their profiles often prominently display the official VRChat Group, further verifying their affiliation.
