Developer Update - 1 December 2022

They have REPEATEDLY said they will not block uploads, that they will allow it to work until it breaks in the inevitable change of getting rid of unity packages for content uploads

They are still waiting for Valve to fix a few issues / bugs.

Yeah, as much as I dislike toxic behaviour in VRChat, adding the ToxMod would be the worst possible thing you could ever do, comparable to (or even surpassing) the fallout of adding EAC.

Toxicity is in the eye of the beholder. It is not for you, the devs, nor for any AI-algorithm, to decide what sort of speech/behaviour constitutes as toxic or unacceptable.
This smells like (government) regulation of speech and infringement upon the freedom of speech.

I honestly think AI voice moderation in PUBLIC WORLDS is the way forward and we will see it in a lot of games if not already.

I think it would work well in VRChat but just like anything… false positives exists so, I’m a bit shaky on that one.

It’s on the developers hands on how it works and what it catches as long as it isn’t overkill… push it forward.

In order for groups to work, people need to make many groups for all different kinds of interests, in order for people to find each other. It would seem to me that these public interests groups just aren’t being made.

Maybe it’s too early, maybe the search just doesn’t work yet, or maybe we really need to let free players make groups.

Either way I look forward to phase 2.

I agree 100% I made a video on YT about it so yeah and please share my vid until The VRC team listens but if they dont then we will keep trying until they realized they Fucked up lol

I gree with this one too

Im sorry but I really don’t think thats fair cause not all people cant/ want VRC+ so I think being able to create groups free for all so there would be no bullying and no toxicness. This is my opinion so believe what ya want

I am really happy to hear that toxmod is not coming any time soon! And the group update is such a great addition.

Maybe if VCC could manage unity versions like the unity hub? I actually don’t know if it already can…

I think the main barrier I’ve seen is how much disk space is needed, especially with Android compatibility.

It’s a good thought. We’ve had that thought a few times too!

(Also sorry about the misname earlier, I was rapid-fire going thru posts and didn’t remember. I’m glad you got it changed! My bad. I edited my post when I realized my mistake.)

So do we!!!

Oof, I see. Have you posted to the proper location, though? I think the VCC team wants bugs/issues posted to their GitHub instead of the Canny, as noted here. It’s a bit confusing we have both open. I’ll get that sorted out.

Notably, as we’ve noted in these threads and in a few other places, we don’t directly support the development of VRChat content on operating systems other than Windows 10 and 11-- although VPM should work on anything capable of running dotNET6 stuff. I’d post an issue to Git!

Although we don’t have it in the roadmap per se, this has been part of the discussion for quite a long time! We’ll probably eventually do it.

We’re not sure how we want to approach this, so for now, we’re watching and seeing how people use Groups first.

This is a known bug, we’re going to see what we can do about it before release and the holidays.

No movement on Steam Audio. DrBlackRat is correct here, the last I heard.

Yep!

While I don’t want to dig too deep into this conversation, VRChat is a private entity, and using VRChat requires that you agree to our Terms of Service, which absolutely does regulate things like hateful or harmful speech.

Not saying you are, but please do not go around and harass people, and then cite things in this way

I’m not sure which icon you’re referring to! Do you mean the VRChat icon?

It’s definitely too early. The beta’s only been out for like… 18 hours!

Right now, we’re in “Discord before Community Finder” stages. Not even that, actually, since we’re still in Beta!

You are right though. Search will make it easier for people to find groups. The first stage is all about just having groups.

It does, insofar as ensuring you have the correct version of Unity for VRChat installed.

The VCC is very small-- 90MB for the current version. After the UX change, it’ll be even smaller. VCC-managed projects don’t use any more space than a normal Unity Hub-managed project would… because they’re the same thing.

Unless you’re talking about something else?

We have no current or future plans to implement ToxMod into VRChat.

So are you going to use some other alternative to ToxMod instead?

I’m sure VRChat staff realizes that anything along these lines is going to have widespread backlash. There were enough concerns with EAC being invasive, and any kind of voice analysis system is on a whole new level of privacy concerns. I think an announcement that VRChat isn’t planning to implement any voice analysis systems (regardless of whether it’s ToxMod or some other solution) would do a lot to foster community goodwill, if there are actually no such plans.

As noted in the OP, we’re interested in a different solution at this time:

Good to know, that was not at all clear and the Canny doesn’t say anything… but now that I look in the Github issues list, there are a LOT of “doesn’t work at all” type of reports, I really hope you guys will address those before forcing users into a situation that completely breaks our existing workflow.

That’s really what I and others have been saying, it’s not that we want you to support Linux with your new tools, it’s that we want you to not make changes breaking things which currently work for us without providing a new solution.

VCC being 90mb is good. I was thinking of the all in disk space requirements. Visual Studio 2019, Unity, Android Support for Unity. I don’t know if it’s mentioned anywhere but it’s like 11gb of stuff. At the very least I didn’t see it mentioned anywhere back in August.

That’s correct, but… isn’t that all required for developing content? Which is what you would be doing if you have VCC installed?

I mean, if you’re only developing PC content, then I suppose you can uninstall the Android part in package manager. But everything else is necessary.

I just want the number known for reference so I’m going to mention 11gb all in every chance I get like it’s my version of CrossFit, because I’m not sure where would be a good place to sneak it in to the documentation

Do you have any plans on adding avatar search in the future?

When is the bug with Creator Campanion not migrating/ migrating projects with the last scene’s scripts being rest going to be fixed?

Ah yeah, that sounds frustrating. Are you using UdonSharp? There’s some edge cases where migration won’t be fully automatic, due to the differences in UdonSharp 1.0. Check our page of known issues - often they occur due to nested prefabs or jagged arrays.

If you need help, feel free to chat with us on our official Discord. If you think you’ve found a bug, please report it on GitHub.

If you’d prefer to skip the VCC, you can download one of our template projects for the world and avatar SDK on GitHub. They include a handy ‘package resolver’ utility for updating your SDK without needing to go to the website.

I hope you’ll give the new SDK a chance, let us know if you need any help!
