VRChat stuck in "Waiting..." on some worlds when using Steam Link VR on Linux, but fine when in desktop?

When you launch VRChat in SteamVR via Steam Link, and go into a world, the screen gets stuck on: “waiting…”. You can hear the game audio in the background, but the game becomes completely unresponsive.

However, it seems to work in completely plain worlds, like the performance ones where its just an empty cube?

But, when you open it in “desktop mode” outside of VR, it works perfectly fine in all worlds? Very odd.

System Information:

I’m using a NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti with the latest drivers that Bazzite uses.

I’ve also tried different versions of Proton:

  • Experimental
  • Glorious Egg Roll
  • Glorious Egg Roll Proton 10-20-RTSP19

Is what it looks like

Assuming you’re running the Open Beta this is a known bug:

If not it’s likely a completely different issue.

Yeah sadly its not that. Tried it with the open beta too. Still nothing :frowning:

I’m having the same thing happen on Fedora 43 using an NVIDIA RTX 4070 with the latest drivers from RPMFusion.

Have you found a fix yet, i have this using the latest GE. Have yet to find a fix

really wish vrc had devs

Unsure what causes this but it seems to be an issue with Steam link

This doesn’t happen if you use ALVR or WiVRn, reminds me of the WayVR Overlay which also doesn’t work when using steam link. Maybe the driver causes issues
