Edited the question to ask if you’ve edited a wiki before. I’m trying to get a measure of how familiar folks are with *wiki syntax.
DokuWiki’s syntax is similar to MWs with some changes.

A question that I just thought about based on the question of where core collaborators would communicate.
It sounds like the core collaboration team would be locked off from the public. So any sort of discussions from that team would be locked behind closed doors.
Forgive me if I missed something, but isn’t part of the point of this wiki to be public and anyone can collaborate? I would think that even if there is a core team that is trusted with editing more than the general public, that their discussions would at least be visible publicly.
I made lots of guides for world creators (text and video ones) about some obscure topics like “how to bake day/night modes”, “how to atlas your entire world” and that thumbnail layout with a tutorial. Focus on optimization and presentation.
Are these things something you are looking to bring to the wiki? cause it would be pretty easy to do this and more to a text wiki format with images and all. I think this would help a lot of creators and I cooked up a lot of these things over the years. Let me know and I will fill out the form!
I beleive, if you have the will, fill the form anyway
Items like this would fit into the :community
namespace for sure!
Oh, hi. I just noticed this thread exists.
I’m quite excited that VRChat is aiming for creating and maintaining their own knowledgebase. I’ve done my fair share of initiating VRChat related articles on Wikifur. It’s quite a big deal in our fandom too!
While I don’t have too much technical know-how on web development or coding, here’s what I would like to see out of this wiki:
1.) I am hoping to be able to pull up the VRChat Wikibase in read-only mode from any VRChat client, PCVR, Quest, Android, iOS, etc.; would be great to utilize the “Info/Help/Tutorial” section of the Main Menu to access the Wiki from there.
2.) I’m not entirely certain of the limitations of DokuWiki, but I would like to see the Wikibase talk to and from the VRChat API. Such as pulling and updating world statistics. Having easy links to VRChat Documentation, ToS, etc. would be great.
Dos/don’ts?
I’ll mention some privacy-related concerns. I’m sure everyone might have differing opinions, but I hope that we can have the best possible solution for it, as big as this community is:
1.) If I’m the original creator of a world, avatar, asset, etc. I would like to request to wiki mods/webmaster, etc. to be able to possess control over said page. Lock out editing as needed, etc.
2.) On that note, I think ‘Talk’ pages are a must for community discussion on a certain topic that won’t vandalize the main article.
3.) This should go without saying: absolutely no mentions of drama, scandals, controversial situations, etc. on ANY page. I’d hate to see the knowledgebase be a forefront of bias and outing creators and players alike. To be frank, if a user, world, group gets permabanned, I have a feeling that the associated pages should be privated and archived hidden behind moderation so the public will be unable to dig up further information.
Matters regarding communication and Discord:
1.) I agree that Discord would be a good place to huddle curators together, and roles would be helpful in order to tell curators, moderators, and readers alike.
2.) A separate Discord would be better for me personally. I would get too distracted on the main VRChat Discord for there to be more channels. This separate Discord should at least be public for VRChat users to join and discuss in a public text channel at will, however, private channels for the curators, editors, mods, etc.
3.) Voice chat channels for curators to talk in? Pretty please?
I saw more than a few requests for “lore” in our wiki!
This would be neat. I’ll mention again that a ‘Talk’ page for an article would also be good for this on individual pages worlds, or groups. (e.g. using the Talk page for ‘The Great Pug’ to discuss its past involvement with The Hunt for Mr. Whiskers ARG). However, I’m sure there can also be an article created for collective lore about a topic. (e.g. The Hunt for Mr. Whiskers ARG).
Cheers!

well put and lots of great advice, dag. Thanks for your input! Most folks seem to be interested in a specific discord for the wiki so we’ll probably swing that way.
I feel like some members in the VRC discord could help.
espcially those who stayed with VRCHAT for a long time.
As for what should be discussed.
is the major histroy and community of Vrchat.
for example the systems VRchat had back then
important people
the Ugandan knuckles
etc

I’ve been doing mediawiki extensively since 2008.
I worked on the official MMO, Fan, & Guild wikis
Of course, my vrchat community has a wiki.
I’ve applied to vrchat to work so many times and have been rejected for stuff I’m willing to just learn…
BUUUUT I can prove myself here LOL.
Slide into my fl / dms @tupper @dag <3
MondoCat on discord :3
We’ve closed the form! Thanks to everyone that submitted. I’m making this my personal task to move this forward, so please expect to get some invites and messages soon if you’ve been accepted.
From there, I will set up some group chats for us to introduce ourselves and set out our goals. I’ll then set up our Wiki so the initial contributors can start making additions.
At that time, the wiki will be open up for viewing, although it’ll be in a rough state. I’ll set a launch date. That date will be when we promote the Wiki via our socials and our in-app info system (banner, article).
As soon as the Creators team can get some bandwidth, we’ll also start linking to the wiki via the VCC and the SDK, where relevant.
You didn’t submit info to the form, Mondo!!
I’ve shipped out invites to a Discord server for those we chose to invite.
Some were sent via Discord, some were sent via email. Discord rate limited me…
Anyhow, we got a lot of applicants, and we had to cut the list down. If you didn’t make the cut, don’t worry; you didn’t do anything wrong – we just had to limit initial participation.
The wiki is now available to browse, but only the Wiki Mods have access for editing and creation.
The content there is VERY barebones at this very moment, so fair warning!
We plan to launch at the end of June.
Hey Fax.
Just wondering, what is the future of https://vrclibrary.com/ now that there is going to be a official wiki?
Is it going to stay the way it is as in just two separated projects with no correlation?
Or do you consider to encourage it to merge the knowhow from vrclibrary to the wiki?
Or do you consider it to be two independent parts that should be aware and reference each other?
Or do you see a future I can’t see.
I’ve actually not heard of that site before, which is interesting because of the amount of various searches I’ve done over last few years.
It doesn’t have really good SEO compared to other platforms unfortunately which causes it to get a little lost. It’s mostly spread via word of mouth.
How many (like a percent) of the applicants were accepted, if you don’t mind me asking?
I was just really excited to help and be part of this.
I also hope we can make edits/suggestions soon, since this is not how to write Mbps :(. Is there are a timeline of when people can do community edits?
The accepted applicants have already been onboarded and are currently working on the wiki, when it will be open for public edits is still [TBA] as much of the wiki still needs to be built out first.
Are you saying this based on Tupper’s message or were you accepted as a volunteer?
Yes I am a volunteer contributor to the wiki along with many other people.
In the meanwhile your feedback regarding the misabbrevation of Mbps has been noted and corrected. Please feel free to share any other suggested edits so we may assure the utmost quality upon the wiki’s full official public launch.
Just wondering, what is the future of https://vrclibrary.com/ now that there is going to be a official wiki?
Thanks for asking! I’m really grateful to the authors who contributed to VRCLibrary.
Please keep in mind that VRCLibrary is a personal project that I work on in my free time - feel free to ask me questions on the VRCLibrary Discord.
Is it going to stay the way it is as in just two separated projects with no correlation?
I’m happy to keep VRCLibrary around once the official wiki has been released. It was very easy to create VRCLibrary, and maintaining it has not been difficult. (But that’s because it’s relatively small!)
Back then, I was surprised that there wasn’t a centralized place for expert creators to share their knowledge. The VRChat wiki fulfills a similar purpose. It’ll be more centralized, so I think it’ll be easier for readers to find helpful articles.
Or do you consider to encourage it to merge the knowhow from vrclibrary to the wiki?
I think that’s a good idea! But I think that’s up to the authors of articles on VRCLibrary. Pandoc makes it relatively easy to convert VRCLibrary’s exported files into other format.
