Voice Chat Stops Working After a Period of Time

Problem: About 10-20 minutes after joining a world, voice chat stops working. I’m not able to hear anyone, but people can hear me. Voice chat doesn’t seem to fix itself after a period of time. This issue also occurs regardless of whether I use VRChat from the Meta menu or the Steam installation via SteamVR. World audio such as music or sounds is not impacted. Not sure if it’s useful, but even though people are talking, when I can’t hear them, their mouths don’t move.

Solutions: So far, the only thing that seems to fix it temporarily is leaving the instance and then returning. However, the problem will just continue happening.

Hardware Specs:
Headset: Oculus Rift CV1
GPU: GIGABYTE Radeon RX6600 8GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
MOBO: Asus Pro B550M-C/CSM Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
RAM: 32GB DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory

Troubleshooting: In another thread, someone suggested a specific version of the C++ executable, which I installed. No change.
I uninstalled and reinstalled both the Oculus/Meta software, SteamVR, and VRChat. No change.
Cycled my router. No change.
I have made sure that all my audio outputs are set the correct device and that they remain so once the issue occurs.

I’m not sure if the Meta Link’s version of VRChat is the same as the Steam installation, but if not, given it’s both versions, I have a sneaking suspicion it might be my ISP, Xfinity. In the past, they’ve blocked harmless domains that prevented me from accessing them, despite trying to turn those features off. Specifically, they blocked only the login server for Second Life, allowing me to access any other subdomain of the website but preventing me from logging into the game. If anyone knows if there’s a specific link that the voice server goes through, I can try to submit a ticket like I have in the past and see if that fixes it.

Voice Comms Cut Out After 20-30 Min | Voters | VRChat This bug report seems to show someone having the same issue, but no solution has been provided. I’ve already gone ahead and voted the issue up.

Thanks for anyone who offers any help, and let me know if there’s any additional information I can provide. I’ll be happy to provide logs, though I’m not sure how to access them.

I do not know what could cause it unless your really out of date because that’s the only thing that I can think of

Yeah idk, it’s so weird. A lot of my friends are much better with VRChat and computers in general than me, and everyone seems to be scratching their heads. Steam shows it updated on 2/21 so I’m on the 2025.1.2 update I believe, as well as I reinstalled this past Saturday.

App ID: 438100
Build ID: 17446733

That’s what steam shows. I should be up to date on all the other things with the reinstall, and Windows is up to date (save for the one sitting in the system tray. I know my AMD drivers have been a bit wonky lately, though I think I fixed it, but I’m not sure how that would impact one specific portion of audio.

ETA: One thing I haven’t tried is the open beta, but I’m not sure how much good that would even do.

Have you tried contacting our Support team?

Our voice is transmitted the same way that IK data is sent, so it is unusual that only voice is cutting out.

Oh, no I haven’t! I didn’t realize that was an option. Knock on wood, but I’ve never had an issue with VRChat up until this one.

But yeah, that does make it even stranger, and why I felt so sure it was some domain blocking shenanigans because it’s such a very specific thing while no other audio is affected (even streaming audio like music or videos in a video player).

I’ll contact the support team, thanks!
