Tried recording myself playing video games while in VRChat. This video is result

hi
i tried to make a youtube video of me playing video games while in VRChat. not linking the video here, but giving directions to find it.

[ Website: Youtube
Channel: karsa-e5z (not the league of legends karsa)

Video title: Share screen in VRChat with video player and Choicast website. I show me play Eve Online. read Desc ]

I know this could be done by recording my vrchat avatar seperately using the Stream camera, and putting it ontop of footage of me playing Eve Online, done in OBS Studio, like vtubers, but i wanted Eve Online to be inside VRChat, and for the stream camera to see that.

the end result was, i found a website called Choicast that you can share a screen or window to, and it gives you a URL or link or whatever its called, to put into a video player in VRChat.

I did that, and ended up with a video where i was in VRChat, and infront of me was a video player shaped like a tv, showing my eve online gameplay.

i am familiar with VRChat, but i am pretty new to actually playing, and usually i record videos of me playing Eve Online. This time i wanted to show myself playing Eve Online while in VRChat.

I think i somehow got it working in a way, but the video has no audio and is low quality, but hey, im learning.

Just wanted to share that i have done this and it is somewhat possible. Maybe the devs see this post and discover a new mechanic or feature to put into VRChat.

this is another similar site, doesn’t have the 15min limit

Oh yeah, forgot to give a update here

Found a website specifically for streaming to vrchat, called VRCLive.

That means i can get the eve online gameplay into the video player in VRChat with hopefully better quality compared to the other websites i tried.

But i need another OBS Studio recording software to record myself in vrchat and the video player.

So i figured that out.

heres some videos i made of me sharing my progress

Website: Youtube

Video 1:
Screenshare to vrchat video player using vrclive and obs studio. going to try again with vrclive app

Video 2:
Multiple OBS Studio with Steam | Do not launch through Steam. Go local files, launch actual program

==========================

The other websites i tried, i think i tried the one you linked as well…they worked, but the quality of the eve online gameplay on them was really bad. Like, blurry, delayed, not smooth…

Hopefully this is better.

These are new to me, done this night, so i still have to do the test with two OBS Studios running, one streaming to the vrchat video player, and another recording me in vrchat with the video player infront of me

Success!

Had to reduce frames per second in the first OBS Studio that was streaming video game gameplay to VRCLive server, which in turn was being shared into vrchat video player through a link.

Reduced frames per second in settings to 30 fps.

Video name:
Good test of screenshare game to vrchat using vrclive and obs studio. had to reduce frame per secon

========================

EDIT
reducing frames per second made the video in vrchat video player smoother. of the eve online gameplay being streamed to VRCLive servers and then being shared to vrchat video player

actually @docteh the site you linked might already have the setting to lower the frames per second…gotta test that next

Tried out the website you linked @docteh and another website, the other website looked blurry in the video player in vrchat when playing eve online and moving my screen around.

Your website was mostly less blurry, but..
…
i dont know…
…
i could not find your website by searching [ screen share to vrchat ] on google

and the other website-based stuff i tried all came out blurry, so your website is working good when i tested it just now, but i dont exactly think it will always be smooth and non-blurry, seeing the other websites i tried all came out blurry…

i have this feeling that the VRCLive thing might be better…but im not a tech guy, but still, this gut feeling that the VRCLive will be better quality when set up right, and this feeling that website based screen sharing services to vrchat video players are not good quality…and this feeling…that the VRCLive thing is better…no evidence, but just a feeling…

will have to play around more with VRCLive, and given my past experience with the website stuff coming out blurry, i dont think i will do them anymore…just a feeling that they arent good and VRCLive is better…a feeling.

Tried to do the same 30 fps thing with VRCLive and the video player, and it came out laggy and freezing…before it came out smoother and a little bit acceptable. Not anymore. Now its freezing and laggy.

Not sure what changed…

Problem might be on my end. My OBS Studio is dropping like 50% of the frames…i think that means somethings going wrong.

Can not get it to work again. I dont know how it worked a little better the first time, and why it fails to work like that again.

Tried a few more times using VRCLive and OBS Studio, and pasting the URL / Link into a video player in a VRChat World

Was streaming eve online specifically.

Its not coming out smooth. I tried alot of stuff, like changing resolution, changing frame rate, but the stream will not be smooth on the video player in VRChat.

What i am doing:
1 - Put stream information from VRCLive website to OBS Studio. Stuff like stream key. Two things.

2 - Start Streaming me playing Eve Online, which is being sent to the VRCLive server.

3 - Get link / URL from VRCLive website and put into VRChat video player in the world i am in, which shows me playing eve online

The problem is, the stream in the vrchat video player isnt coming out smooth. Its laggy and freezes a tiny bit. Not smooth. Its choppy.

I tried [ screenshare to vrchat ] websites, and those are smoother, but they end up being very blurry, so thats kind of useless.

===============================

The goal is to make a youtube video where i am in vrchat sitting down, and infront of me is a video player, showing me playing video games like eve online.

The viewer will see me in vrchat, looking at a video player, and the video player will be me playing eve online live.

I dont want to do the usual vtubing thing where the game is seperate and vrchat is seperate and you put vrchat ontop of the game.

I want the game to be on the video player in vrchat, and for the camera to capture both me and the video player in vrchat.

doesnt really make sense, but kind of like a chill video of a vrchat anime girl playing a game on a screen in vrchat.

a chill video.

but all the methods i tried to screen share me playing the video game, which is eve online, into vrchat video player, either resulted in the screen share being really blurry (website), or really laggy and not smooth (VRCLive)

I am dumb so i dont know if i am right or not, but it feels like it was working good the first time, wasnt good the second time, and i tried again today and it was working good again. Not perfect, but better than the second time.

Feels like the smoothness of the stream to vrchat video player through VRCLive and OBS Studio is different every time…maybe something was happening in real life yesterday when i was trying to do it the second time which made it laggy, when the first time and this third time today i tried it and it came out a bit better. Not perfect. But better than the second time.

The VRCLive and OBS Studio and VRChat video player method for showing my live eve online gameplay in VRChat is not coming out smooth…and to be honest, the game isnt smooth on my own virtual desktop vr screen either.

maybe i will try livestreaming to youtube instead of to VRCLive server, and post the youtube link into the VRChat video player.

Does not really solve the problem of eve online being laggy for me personally though while in PCVR VRChat. Not laggy, just, not smooth. Less smooth compared to just normal virtual desktop vr, with no vr game or anything, just using quest 3 headset as a screen for computer, using virtual desktop software.

Eve Online isnt smooth for me or the vrchat video player that has the VRCLive link put in.

Also worth mentioning that, yes, i have a Quest 3, but my gaming laptops GPU is a GTX 1650, which is…i heard its really bad and outdated.

Maybe someone else who has a better GPU can try getting their video game into a vrchat video player and recording themself playing it while in VRChat, looking at the video player that shows their gameplay.

=======================

Step 1 - On OBS Studio on steam, right click, click manage, browse local files, then go to bin, then 64 bit, and scroll down until you find the obs64 app.

Step 2 - Double click obs64 app to get OBS Studio running. Double click again to get a second OBS Studio. it will say a OBS Studio is already open. Click " i know, launch away " or something like that.

Step 3 - Set one OBS Studio to record your game.

Step 4 - Go to VRCLive website, and click [ get new stream key ]

Step 5 - Put the server and stream key into the streaming tab of OBS Studio. There are buttons on the website to copy both of them, one at a time. Have to set OBS Studio Streaming option to Custom.

Step 6 - Click start streaming. If you are successfully streaming, good! if it says can not reach server or something, go to VRCLive and get a new stream key, and put that into OBS Studio stream settings. Then click Start Streaming again.

…

Step 7 - Open virtual desktop app on your Quest 3 or other virtual reality headset, connect to your gaming laptop / desktop, then go into the games tab in virtual desktop vr, and launch VRChat from there.

Step 8 - Go into a world with a video player. I have my homeworld set to some sort of apartment world with a video player so this step is done automatically when i log into VRChat.

Step 9 - Go to VRCLive website, find text saying Watch in VRChat (AVPro) , click copy to copy that link.

Step 10 - Go to VRChat video player, click the button to enter a URL or link, and there will be a button near the text bar thing where you put in the link, a button saying Paste Link or Paste.

Step 11 - Click Paste. The link you copied should go in. Then click enter. The VRChat video player should be showing the game that you are streaming to VRCLive server through OBS Studio

…

Step 12 - Open menu in VRChat, and open Stream Camera

Step 13 - set it to flying, and set it so it shows you and the video player, with you looking at the video player

Step 14 - Disable flying so you can control your avatar again, but the camera stays there

Step 15 - Go into the second OBS Studio, add source, set game capture to VRChat, and press Ok or Enter. It should be showing you in VRChat through your Stream Camera, with the video player in the background.

…

Step 16 - Click record, then look at the video player, and press the menu button on left controller to pull up SteamVR, and pull up and play the game on your Virtual Desktop Screen.

…

The video that ends up being made should be some VTuber style video, where the viewer sees a person in VRChat playing a game on a VRChat video player.

On your end, you are playing it on a virtual desktop vr screen when you press the left menu button on your controller and pull up the virtual desktop vr screen with the game on it.

If its laggy on the vrchat video player, try reducing Frames per second in obs studio to 30. its in Video settings. have to end stream to do it. can start stream again right after.
