Platform & Discovery
What Is the “For You” World List?
Q: What can you tell us about the “For You” World List?
A: The For You world list is an experiment we’re running - as you can imagine, it’s personalized. You might see it, you might not, you might see variations. We’re not sharing more than that because we want to see if it works without people touching the experiment.
Plans to Differentiate Recurring vs Individual Events on the Calendar?
Q: Any plans to streamline or make it easier to tell the difference between recurring and individual events from the calendar?
A: Yes. We’re continuing to iterate on events across the board - you can tell by how much more we’re promoting it on stream now. We’re trying to find time to improve on all aspects of events, including creating and managing them. Short answer: yes.
Can You Filter to Quest-Compatible Worlds While on PC?
Q: Is there a reason we can’t filter to Quest-compatible worlds while on PC? We have to skip a lot of PC-only worlds.
A: There is or should be an option for this. We’d love more filtering options in general. Things we’re working on will result in a pretty different picture of how you explore VRChat. Coming eventually.
Friends List Stops Syncing After Long Sessions - Refresh Button?
Q: We know that the more time you spend in an instance, especially with people on poor connections, you get issues like the friends list not syncing. Sometimes if you miss a queue in a world there’s no way to rejoin. Could there be a button to manually refresh without restarting VRChat?
A: What’s being described sounds like a websocket connection issue. When social features start breaking after a long session, that’s usually the cause - ISPs sometimes block websockets for dumb reasons, and IPv6 is known to cause issues with them. This is not normal behavior for a regular play session. Contact support at support.vrchat.com with your game logs from when it happens and they can help diagnose it. (Also, the period key on your keyboard can refresh some things in the meantime.)
Portal Dropping to Friends Only to Prevent Abuse in Public Worlds?
Q: Do you plan to add a feature to limit portal dropping to friends only? This could prevent people from abusing portal drops in public worlds.
A: This is complicated. Our design principle is: if you’re allowed to join a world, you should be able to see a portal to it. If you want a portal only your friends can use, drop it to a Friends instance - non-friends won’t see it, and if they somehow do, they can’t get in. Friends+ is more open by design (“as long as you know a guy you can get in”) - that was intentional. As for spam: you can only drop one portal at a time, so you can’t actually spam. If multiple people are dropping portals at you, you’re just hanging out with assholes. Portal stacking though? That’s a feature. Never fixing that.
Will VRChat Ever Be on Consoles?
Q: Will VRChat be available for consoles in the future?
A: Possible. No plans, nothing announced, nothing attached to it. Some consoles could probably handle it technically. There are complications beyond just technical difficulty. Never say never, but nothing to share right now.
When Will VRChat Release on Nintendo Switch?
Q: When will you release VRChat on the Nintendo Switch?
A: Never. It would explode in your hands.
Will PC Lag Ever Be Fixed?
Q: Will PC lag be fixable in the future?
A: Not fully, no. Your computer will always be slightly too slow for the content being thrown at it - that’s not a joke, that’s just UGC. As TCL put it: user content is a gas, it fills whatever performance headroom is available. The main driver of lag is unoptimized avatars, and the primary culprit inside that is material count, not polygon count. Tools exist to help: Meshy for polygon reduction, Darks Avatar Optimizer, VRC Fury for materials. We do have some performance improvements on the way. Best real advice: find a community of people who optimize and befriend them. Someone will happily help you. That’s always been part of VRChat culture and still is.
Avatar & SDK
Will There Be a Way for Android Users to Upload Avatars Without a PC?
Q: Will you add a way for Android users to upload avatars without requiring a PC, like a mobile app?
A: We’d love to, but building a mobile app that handles avatar creation and keeps up with the content pipeline is a lot of work. Probably a ways off as a first-party thing. In the meantime, there are third-party apps like Decad that can do some of this - the selection can feel limited but Decad has more options than people realize. We hear you.
Raycast Collisions with Remote Player Capsules - Can the Size Be Fixed?
Q: Now that Raycast is out with the option to collide with players, someone on Canny pointed out that remote player capsules are only a small sphere at the player’s feet. A dev said fixing this would break existing content. It seems like we can’t pick a side even though this is an official feature.
A: We don’t know the specifics well enough to give a useful answer - whoever commented on Canny knows way more than we do on this one. Best guess is it’s something like a flow manager issue where the fix looks straightforward but isn’t - a lot of low-level code pathways in VRChat are like that. Check the Canny post for the most accurate info.
Plans to Refresh the Avatar Performance Rank System?
Q: Setting aside the quality gate for avatars, any plans to refresh the rank system?
A: Eventually, yes. “Plans” implies we have a date, and we don’t. But we want to.
What Kind of Furry Avatar Does Tupper Want to Build?
Q: What kind of Furry does Tupper want to be (for Furality)?
A: An Avali, or at least a proto-Avali. Tupper knows best practices for most avatar pipelines (the Gumroad/Jinxy “buy a finished kit” approach, the Booth modular approach with Modular Avatar, Mochi, Feta, etc.) but admits the furry pipeline specifically is “parts unknown” territory. VK avatar makers apparently make a lot of the most popular Booth avatars so that got corrected in chat - it’s probably not as hard as it looks, Tupper just needs someone to show him the way.
Trust & Safety Content
What Is “Malicious Gallery Content” in the New Ban Reason?
Q: There’s a new ban reason going around - “your account has been found to be involved in the use, creation, or distribution of malicious gallery content.” What is malicious gallery content?
A: We can’t share much about trust and safety specifics. Best interpretation: “gallery” in VRChat context covers prints, photos, emojis, icons, profile photos - that whole category. Something in there is being used maliciously somehow. That’s our read of it, that’s all we can give you here.
Accessories & Items
Can We Get Glasses as an Accessory?
Q: Can we get an accessory that’s a pair of glasses? Something for the blind bats. Don’t care what kind, don’t care how much.
A: sustained winking at camera Million dollar idea. We’ll be watching the revenue numbers.
Can We Get a Walkie-Talkie Accessory?
Q: Can we get a walkie-talkie accessory? Would be handy in big worlds like the fishing one.
A: Would be really fun. Probably technically complicated but could be cool. Required features per the team: channel selection, appropriately terrible audio quality (very stanky low-pass filter), and if you use a channel you don’t have a license for, a black van shows up.
Will Player Pickup Ever Be a Global Friends Option?
Q: Will there ever be player pickup as a global friends option?
A: Not as a blanket global option. Interesting idea as an item or accessory though - equip it and your friends can pick you up. That’s just spitballing, not a commitment. Player pickups are fun.
Cameras & Film
Will There Be an Option to Hide Floating Cameras?
Q: As someone who does a lot of roleplay in VRChat, cameras are distracting for actors and audience. Will there be an option to hide floating cameras?
A: Probably something we can do, but we have to balance it against privacy - the floating lens indicator exists specifically so you know someone has a camera on you. Any option to hide it would need to be paired with something that reminds you it’s active. This comes up for filmmakers and also at music events where lots of photographers are shooting at once. We understand the problem completely and will figure something out.
Community / Off-Topic
What Is Everyone’s Favorite World?
Q: What do each of you have as your number one favorite world?
A: Tupper: Dr. Morro’s worlds are almost certainly the answer for artistic vision and execution. Also spends a lot of time in the F-14 carrier flight world around 6-7pm on weekdays - probably in the chill vibes instance. (Do not run a chatbox in that world unless you want to get shot.) Another answer: fishing is the obvious one, but mini golf and simple social game worlds are the real answer - wants more of those. Another: no single favorite, does a lot of world hopping, hard to pick when people keep making better things. General sentiment: keep making cool stuff, it is genuinely noticed and appreciated when creators level up.
What Is Everyone’s Least Favorite World?
Q: What’s your least favorite? The one you made?
A: Hard to pick. Even truly terrible worlds have charm - the ones with just a pile of JPEGs scattered around are some of the best in a way. They have energy like someone’s Geocities page or forum signature.
Have You Seen the Movie “Goat”?
Q: Have you seen the new movie called Goat?
A: No. Last movie Tupper saw was Project Hail Mary, before that was Top Gun Maverick. One movie every five years, give or take.
Is the “To the Moon” Sticker’s Reflection Going the Wrong Way?
Q: The new “To the Moon” animated sticker seems weird - the comet’s reflection is going the wrong way. Intentional or bug-report-worthy?
A: Tupper went to investigate live and couldn’t immediately find the sticker to verify. Will look into it - if it seems wrong to you, go ahead and post it on Canny.
What Is Everyone’s Favorite Feature in Any World?
Q: What’s your favorite feature in any world?
A: Tupper: flight, specifically helicopters. A world with a functional helicopter is automatically top 10 easy. Particular love for the photogrammetry/Google Maps scan worlds (pyramids, Machu Picchu) that have little prop planes or helicopters included. Tupper has given helicopter tours of the pyramids. Another team member: driving systems, specifically Varneon Systems which is apparently really, really good. Adi Ash: grappling hook systems with accurate physics and good adjustment mechanics - flying through the air is sick, though nine years in some things still cause VR sickness.
Is VRChat English-Language-Centered, and Will That Always Be the Case?
Q: Do you think VRChat is a very English-language-centered game, and if so, do you think that will always be the case?
A: It used to be, but not anymore. VRChat is now localized by the community into lots of languages - Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian, German, French, Toki Pona, and more, including by people in our own chat. Japan is one of our fastest growing markets. Large communities from Brazil/South America and Russia too. English speakers in VRChat are just the loudest and most annoying - that’s just how we roll apparently.
Have You Experienced Aquatics Haven by Commander A9?
Q: Have you experienced a world called Aquatics Haven by Commander A9? It’s the most relaxing spot - big pool and a secret area with a star on the door.
A: Haven’t been yet, but we met Commander A9 at FWA - very cool person. Will check it out.
Note: Flare was absent again this stream. Next week we’ll try to drag them back. Frailty is next weekend - we’ll be hopping through worlds from it.
