Users can gain access to a mature content key after verification
Non-age verified users can’t see/access them at all.
-Avatars will be replaced with a fallback (legacy model) or robot with mature content tag in the center
-Worlds can’t be accessed at all and or can’t be shown on world lists or optionally, the world will show “no access”
You can also add a system in place to allow mature content in certain worlds as well as specific instances with moderation tools given to groups
Failure to properly tag content will result in a suspension/ban (like with the recent ban wave)
Currently VRChat is potentially at risk of being removed from Google Play and Apple App Store for not following it’s TOS/Guidelines on NSFW content and it being available for free. Yes it’s the users responsibility but it’s more importantly the devs responsibility to enforce it in a 13+ game and to follow their respective rules on each platform. User generated content does not get an exemption
Added note, this could affect the Meta Quest users as well if certain legal teams get involved
There have been quite literally a million different posts with this exact same idea. To which I have replied to everyone explaining in significant detail why this is a bad* idea. If this was the route VRC was going to take, they would have done it by now.
Whether anyone likes it or not, NSFW is paying the bills right now.
According to all current laws on the internet in everywhere but China, platforms and publishers are NOT responsible for what their users produce, and only one state in America has implemented age restriction laws, texas, and theyre being fought over it.
VRChat is at absolutely no risk of being removed from the Play Store. I would need to familiarize myself with Apples TOS more thoroughly but I doubt they’ll get removed from there either.
The real concern is the optics problem in reviews right now. According to literally everyone who posts a review about VRChat, apparently the game is full of predators that no one’s ever seen or adequately proved exists.
Friendly reminder, this is a 13+ game thats accessible on platforms that even younger kids play. If this was Call of Duty this argument would be different
VRChat is responsible for moderating what is on the platform in terms of NSFW content (This goes for Meta, Google Play, and the Apple App Store).
This ban wave is more than likely to deal with the fact that VRChat has been breaking the rules for their “limited exceptions” for user generated content by not enforcing it properly. Infact VRChat just uses the bare minimum requirements to not be taken down or removed.
The dumb content filter settings can’t be used as a crutch when underaged users can still just… toggle it off to see all the adult content.
At the very least, Sexual content, NEEDS to be locked behind age verification + an optional Mature Content Key available only to verified users. Not every adult wants to see that content in general and some might have some kind of mental disorder (wow a vrc user with mental issues how ‘rare’) that should not be exposed to that kind of thing
Thats a whole other topic though
As for this… there is plenty of evidence. Even fellow VRC users aren’t shying away from exposing the predators on this platform in the form of stickers/animations/videos/screenshots. They are all over the place. That’s not to even mention a rumor (with many many docs of evidence) that I can’t say specifically because it would get just this thread taken down. (Archiving this just in case after posting)
It’s actually a huge problem, but if you just play casually, 99% of the time, you will not see it. For example, if you play VRChat and treat it literally only as a GAME and not a social platform, you will hardly encounter it. But you will more than likely see NSFW avatars in that regard.
VRChat themselves have not addressed the issue because it would bring bad PR, they don’t want to lose investors. They don’t want a “Roblox” to happen. But I mean, VRChat was already on the news about a guy living in a minors closet after engaging with them in VRC..

What VRChat might do soon is just make an announcement in their discord addressing the ban wave and remind users to properly tag their uploads.
I know the devs can get it right but like, why now? Why not when you first got approved for the Quest platform? Even Android… now iOS… All those platforms breathing down your neck and all it takes is one of their legal teams to take one good look at it, and suspend them until they get their platform under control (a.k.a. the ban wave)
Just for giggles, I threw a prompt up for multiple Ai programs to take a look at. And they all more or less say the same thing about NSFW content while also adding the change to free verification
”Mandate Robust, Free Age Verification for All Users: Make third-party ID verification (like the current Persona system) completely free, quick, and mandatory for accessing any 18+ features or instances. Unverified users default to a “minor-safe” mode with no access to gated content. Verified 18+ users get a permanent badge and full platform access-”
”Personalized Safety Filters: Default “Safe Mode” for unverified/under-18: gates all non-SFW content (avatars become robots, worlds hidden). Adults can customize toggles per label. Add “Personal Bubble” expansions and auto-mute/block for safety violations.”
Honestly don’t belive a single second an AI about legal concerns, especially on sensible stuff like that. They will most likely never be accurate.
As for the free verification, it will not happend or at least not for now because verification through vrchat’s partner costs money for each verification. Couldn’t find the source but pretty sure i saw a post about that.
So there is always solution and improvements, but that’s up to the legal team of vrchat to take that matter, we don’t really have a say on that one.
Yeah, this isn’t Call of Duty though. It’d be more apt comparing it to IMVU. Which is also a 13+ game that has access to adult content.
As for everything else in your reply: I saw the AI part first and I feel there’s no need to even address it. If you’re using AI for serious advice and you need to double check your priorities.
I wouldn’t for a second rely on such corporate spyware to form my opinions for me.
You ignored the first response entirely my guy. You seen that I mentioned Ai and focused on that, and I didn’t even use it for advice. It literally more or less was the same view I was already making.
Not to mention the recent tupper video seems to also align with the views I and many others were making
