Will you be able to Edit Group Instances once in them? Say you only want a few roles at first for the staff of a community to get ready, then later open it to more roles or everyone. Would that be possible?
I really hope mass invites will come to Groups because some communities hold special events and the pain of inviting so many people at once will still be an inconvenience. But it looks fantastic so far!
Groups could be great for my Japan club.
not on board with the whole groups thing, will probably be orange 2.0
This is my concern as well. There are many long established groups out there that trolls, disgruntled ex-members or even real members who aren’t actually in charge would just love to steal the name of or hold hostage for money or some other power over the established group. Also the issue of pretenders who may create a group under the name of some popular streamer or the like, gathering people to the group for malicious purposes when not authorized to do so. I strongly hope that this is under the consideration of the moderation team and that they have a plan in place to protect existing groups and to decisively take down name trolls, pretenders and bad actors.
It would be super cool to have a button that just takes you to some completely random worlds to explore.
The groups function seems super promising though, I support what other have said though, it could be nice to set home to a group world so everytime you load up at home you’ll likely only see familiar faces. Kinda like a guild house kind of thing, then from there people could go their random ways, stop to chat or go somewhere together.
so please tell me where can i modify mouse sensitivity in UI2.0
Groups have two identifiers. The first is the group name, which is non unique. Multiple groups can have the same name. This name is used in group descriptions, display on the UI, displayed on nameplates, etc etc.
The second identifier is something we’re calling the short name, which is a 3 to 6 character long string followed by a discriminator, a lot like other services like Discord.
The combination of the short code and the discriminator constitutes a unique identifier, and two groups cannot share the same short code+discriminator.
This allows groups to name themselves whatever they want, while still being able to have a unique name that will allow users to verify that they are looking at the correct group.
I appreciate knowing that, but it really doesn’t answer the question regarding moderation, particularly for existing groups that are likely to have their names spoofed. I can understand if it’s not decided on yet but I do feel like this is likely to be a far bigger issue if there isn’t a system in place on release to moderate maliciousness in group names. I’ve been trying not to give people specific ideas, but I’d be happy to give you an entire series of possible scenarios that I’ve thought of privately if you like. This is a serious concern for many of us.
All the new features are very nice. Really like the current portal placement system. I do have a few comments about portals though:
-
All portals native to a world should go to a world of the same ‘privacy level’ as the world was spawned at. e.g. If I spawn an Invite only world, all portals that are part of that world should really be invite only. If this isn’t reasonable, please consider:
-
Make it so I can point/click at a PUBLIC or any portal and it pulls up that world’s info panel in the main menu. This will allow those of us who never visit public worlds to go to non-English character worlds again. For instance, in the World Repository. I go there in Friends mode; all the portals are to public worlds. I do NOT want to go to a public world. EVER. I have to type in each world and hope I can find it in the search. Japanese name? Skip it, can’t do anything… any non-ASCII name… move along. Please fix this.
CAMERA BEGGING before it’s put away on the back burner…
(Please make the camera scalable and grabbable
at any distance. I’m FINE with the UI in the way. Just PLEASE let the camera scale UP. Also, make the grab distance, if not infinite, at least 10x what it is now.)
VRChat isn’t like youtube, world creators constantly update their worlds. Personally I have been updating the same world with new content for over a year now and while the current trending system is far from perfect, it does prevent worlds from “dying” after they’re not trending anymore
Making the trending system remove old content would encourage quantity over quality, which would only make world discovery of good worlds harder in the process
well group lookslike very good
I just have some question…
can we set a group instance as our home?
I mean…when we log in and the first instance we auto joined is the sameone group instance
so every time we log in, we won’t wait in a lonely world
To be honest, I really want group names to be unique. Otherwise, it might be really confusing for people that are looking to join a community.
If a group name is non-unique then this would be an absolute nightmare for every big community on VRC. Just picture a new member looking for your community and being met with 20 other groups with the exact same name.
Also, group creation should only be limited to Trusted/Known users in my opinion.
We should also give approved communities the chance to claim a tag first. We already have a list of accepted ones: Public Community Discord Applications Status - Google Sheets
how would that make discovery harder? Most people go to “Trending” to find worlds, since most people play vrchat casually. The current algo is designed to push the same few older worlds and the user misses out on tons of quality fresh content.
Yes some older worlds would die due to it, but on the flip side lots of great new worlds that would have died within a day could get proper recognition they deserve.
This change also encourages creators to focus on making a quality world, because its less likely their hard work is going to drown out and receive no visits.
the current system isn’t great, but giving content a “lifetime” in the trending algorithm, like how youtube does it, just dis-encourages world creators to update their worlds or put too much effort in their worlds at all, because it’ll be out of the algorithm in a few weeks anyways
You don’t see month old videos in the youtube trending algorithm, which is okay because youtube videos can’t be updated after publication, VRC worlds can
I second the idea of being able to set a group instance as homeworld, my friend group have several people using a launch parameter to spawn in our own custom world with a script which checks for our usernames and puts us in our own “rooms” when we log on. It’s honestly real damn cool to just put on the headset, log in and meet up with your friends without having to dash out invites.
I wish it was easier for people to have the same experience as I do.
Will there be something like Groups+, similar to Friends+? In this case the instance will be visible for anyone as long you share a group with someone in the world, like Friends+! I’d still like to meet lots of people, and remaking the instance and moving everyone over to a new instance is always such a hassle x3
it would be too easy to game it if you give worlds that have had updates weight on the algo. You can just move a chair around, reupload and be back where you were at.
Also how would you check if an update is an update and not just adding another patreon poster somewhere. Or fixing a small bug, etc.
If we could get a chance to have customizable theme colors and other options for our main menu and etc., that would be very useful for VRCHAT subscriptions. Having the option to be able to customize the color of the border and background color for the main menu besides its default green color, for example twitter theme color that would be nice and worth continuing and encouraging member to re-subscribe or new members to subscribe.
What about the Chatbox changes you guys showed a few Dev Updates ago? Haven’t seen you guys talk about them / they are also not in the beta yet.
