Developer Update - 3 August 2022

These are super cool, still wish they happened before EAC so there wouldn’t be room to complain, but glad to see more good stuff coming out so fast.
Id like to suggest trying to get STT (Speech to Text) working sooner rather than later as its quite useful, even if it has to be toggled on / loaded for each player individually.
There’s certainly limitations due to hardware and software as well as time for everything you’ve gotta do, but just keep talking with us openly and continuing to do the best you can!

I think both should be an option, retain the current lock functionality toggling whether you’re able to freely grab and move it, and add an option that allows you to reposition a locked mirror with the augmented controls and immediately go back to being locked.

I’d also like to see the new mirror positioning controls applied to the camera lens as well, especially the ability to change it’s distance from you using the joystick.

Nice update. Please consider fixing avatar scaling for people who built custom animations for it. Save a lot of unnecessary extra uploads of each model.

Indeed, getting news daily is good in this current situation. But in the coming weeks/months, having updates daily wouldn’t be very interesting, as they would talk about the same thing every day.

I am also excited, once we get these accessibility features out. We can probably expect Developer Updates about other things, like Udon for example, and that makes me very excited. We haven’t had a proper Udon update for months :slight_frown: but we gotta have faith!

If by content creator, you mean world creator. Wouldn’t Cinemachine be a possible thing to use for making world previews and stuff ? I haven’t tested it myself, but I do believe you can make pretty neat things with it.

Tupper has commented on this before

As much as I agree, yes, I normally record my VR sessions for blooper and funny moments to clip out, to eventually make a montage. As an IT person, there is those times a log doesn’t give the full experience of an event that is either uncommon or just shouldn’t happen.

oh also the ability to immobilize our avatars without the needing of a script like “Goloco” for 1. immersion so our feet don’t move a lot, and 2. for users who have very bad stick drift, this could help with that immensely.

my friend had the same issue
they blue screened as soon as the game opened
we deleted everything for vrc (steam/appdata even reg files via regedit in the run box then crtl f to find vrchat things)
it took about an hour to find everything but we got them up and running even on the live beta

Love the testing momentum and the dev updates! Keep it coming!

many people are still using an old pc with like an amd fx cpu or using realy old grafikcards or playn on the onboard grafikcard cuz they cant afford a good pc. is it possible that you could implement setting like how many cores of a cpu the game can use? or how much ram the game can use at max? and i would love to have an option were the viewpoint follows my avatar head when i change the size of the avatar. cuz i like to talk with people and look into there eyes but my friends are using avatars that have diferent sizes so its kinda hard for me to talk with em properly. so when i can change the size of my avatar without a problem then i would not to have to change into a different avatar when i wanna talk with them in same size. im sorry for my bad english and maybe i make translation fails. and yes i do hope that you read this full and understand what im tryn to say tupper. please get the good work up, im happy that you guys finally do so much for the comunity and maybe is it possible to hire good people that did make mods like anticrash? cuz even now im getting crashed in puplic/friends + worlds and i have my saftys on max so i dont see avatars from people that are not in my friends list. and yes i have a ryzen 5 5600X & rtx 3070 ti and vrc is on a m.2 ssd installed.

For the scaling thing, doesnt need to be on all avatars. Just to not break on avatars for people who took the time to make custom animations. The only issue is the viewball not scaling properly to stay with the avatar model.

There already is a way to fly, but you have to make it built into your avatar now

Can we get an answer on whether official modding support is on the cards or not? Because that’s what people really want most (short of just removing EAC). As cool as these new features are (and they are cool), you guys must be aware that you aren’t going to be able to add every single feature people might want. The easy answer would be to just allow mods and work with the modding community to incorporate a vetting process. How difficult would that be to do?

I like that you are adding these but these could’ve been added a year ago. Better late than never I guess. I still do hope there’ll be updates that focus on content creation. For example:

  • Camera Animation - to move camera along pivoted points in 3D space (like connect the dots!)
  • Deeper zoom - I want to zoom in really far
  • Focal length indicator - to easily match real world camera (35mm sensor) so we can create mixed reality content easier
  • Automated Zoom - same as Camera Animation, but for zooms by setting the start focal length and the end focal length.
  • Hide camera UI
  • Camera screen resizer - enlarge or make it smaller
  • Improved Look at Me feature - instead of having the camera look directly at the player’s head, there should be another option where it doesn’t look directly at the head, but the camera moves with the head bobbing regardless of where the camera is position.
  • Change Camera Stabilizer Value - the default value isn’t smooth enough so it would be great to have it more customizable.

These advanced camera features can be toggled by enabling an “Advanced” option in the camera menu.

And for avatar related features:

  • Player immobilizer - so non-FBT players can move their head around without changing body movement (and useful when sitting and laying down poses).

Thank you and hopefully these suggestions will be heard!

i got a question the personal mirror and facemirror will be for everyone(Desktop,Oculus and Vr Desktop) or only for desktop

I personally strongly disagree with the notion that “adjusting process priority doesn’t affect performance much”. I have to set most games i play to high priority else they get significant stutter problems and frame pacing issues if i do anything notable like activate a video stream in discord. High priority is an absolute must. I normally set this via a registry key that overrides the priority (this still works fine despite EAC):

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\VRChat.exe]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\VRChat.exe\PerfOptions]
"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003```
00000001 Idle
00000002 Normal
00000003 High
00000004 RealTime (n.a.)
00000005 Below Normal
00000006 Above Normal

Can we have the ability to go third person in desktop and to rotate/tilt our head from side to side on desktop as well? This was something I used frequently before the recent update.

I feel like all those “social problems” Tupper mentions with scaling are kind of overlooking the fact that those potential problems already exist with the ability to just switch your avatar whenever you want. The only thing scaling really changes in that regard is making it so avatar creators don’t have to be using several separate avatar uploads just to have their avatar at different sizes for different occasions. Just keeps people from having to reload someone’s avatar if they decide they want to change size to be eye level with the group of people they’re hanging out around.

Thats what people did with the mod around. But now those animations dont change your viewpoint anymore.

avatar search feature? or will that be another dead mod to fall victim to EAC
