Announcements

Pride Month is Coming!

We’re planning on announcing some of our Pride plans on May 28. Keep an eye on our YouTube channel!

If you missed our previous announcement:

This June, we’ll be launching a Pride Parade Hub world – an inclusive space designed to highlight LGBTQ+ creators from across the platform.

But we need your content for it!

Specifically, we need your posters!

We’re looking for Groups that celebrate and support LGBTQ+ members, posters that send a positive message to the LGBTQ+ community, and more!

You can find the guidelines here. Likewise, you can submit your content here.

Submissions close on 12PM PST on May 30, 2025.

Summer (Music) Festival Jam

But wait, that’s not all! (Community Team has been busy…)

We’re planning our next Avatar Jam for the end of June! We’ll announce more details on June 16 or so.

We Announced the Avatar Marketplace!

If you missed it, last week we announced the Avatar Marketplace. You can see the Developer Update video about it here:

The Avatar Marketplace should make finding an avatar for newer VRChat players a lot easier. No longer do you have to sort through hundreds of avatar worlds – you can just find something rad right from your menu!

As is the case with most systems we’ve built, Avatar Marketplace is a feature that’s still very much under construction! We already have plans for what it will look like as we move forward – and what it looks like day one isn’t exactly what it will look like a few weeks (or a year) from now.

Expect more info on that in the coming weeks!

With that said, here are a few more useful links about the Avatar Marketplace:

So far, over 1,000 creators have signed up for the Avatar Marketplace! If you’d like to join them, you can click here.

…and then we shipped it to Open Beta!

2025.2.2 is now in Open Beta, which includes the Avatar Marketplace!

You can read the full patch notes here.

While the Marketplace is the big star here, there are also a few notable fixes we think people will appreciate:

  • World downloads happen a little faster!
  • Server Processing – also a little faster!
  • …and many more bug fixes!

Web Updates

We’ve got a few updates from the web team for you this week!

  • Fixed several issues in creators’ Marketplace management pages!
    • Sales charts should now render as expected.
  • Added support for reporting avatars from the web.
  • Improved handling for content which has been disabled or removed across the site and Marketplace.
  • Various support and content guideline URLs were corrected.
  • Fixed the share/copy link button for Avatars providing an invalid URL.
  • Improved Marketplace downtime notices.
  • Improved color contrast for switch controls across the site.

Conclusion

And that’s it for today! The next update will be on June 5. See you then!

Hypeeeeee~

  1. When will the Splines Package be exposed to Udon?
    a. I’m interested in “Nearest point on spline” in particular for soundscaping.
  2. What on Earth did yall do to the avatar selection menu? (Open Beta)
    a. Why can’t I unfavorite unavailable/privated avatars? It won’t let me.
    b. Why can I no longer sort my avatar lists?
    c. Why does it default to the store tab every time I open the game? I will not be using it 99% of the time, I do not need it to be the default selection.
    d. Why are my recent avatars not appearing at the top of the Recent tab?

While in theory the new avatar menu is more polished, it’s blatantly missing features the old one had, has more bugs, and is shoving a feature I don’t want down my throat. I will be opting out of the Open Beta until these issues can be resolved.

As a gay guy I appreciate you doing this for the LGBT community. Anytime I’m in any public instances as myself, I tend to get a lot of hate even now. It’s great to see companies sticking up for us when we’re still very clearly in such hateful times. I hope that I can meet some who are like me in the world.

Also, I’m excited for the avatar marketplace. I for one will ONLY be purchasing avatars from the marketplace from now on. As soon as creators started introducing the Gonso Licenser, I have backed off purchasing avatars simply for the fact any creator could revoke the license to your avatar whenever they want, also you can’t edit the avatars in playmode. The avatar marketplace gives safety for creators and for the buyers so thank you for this very welcome feature!

If you’re having issues with YouTube videos playing, not much can be done there.

Nobody asked for the Marketplace as it is. Everyone wanted an official alternative to third-party file sharing websites and we are getting a system that gives people the ability to pay for the privilege to wear an avatar they cannot customize, due to VRChat relying entirely on avatar creation via external programs.

Unfortunately, unless the Avatar Marketplace receives a total overhaul to be more in line with the third party marketplaces it must exist alongside, it will likely be DOA just like the Creator Economy it was meant to strengthen.

This version of the marketplace is very likley to be a nice feature.
It looks like a fancy ingame serach tool for Public Avatars, which now can have a paywall.

Does the Marketplace show every public avatar?

Most people I know want a custom and private Avatar with almost every aspect adjusted to thier liking.
