Developer Update - 11 August 2022

With an avatar scaling feature PLEASE give options to do this with the avatar itself and animations to be able to do specific effects. Like say slowly turning into a werewolf or such where over time the avatar can change with bled-shape and texture changes. There is more utility than just making yourself a different scale.

Many users also want to experience the scale shit with the IPD shift giving one the experience of shrinking and growing.

So please at least give those options also to avatar creators when you look into the design.

Thank you so much for keeping us up to date and constantly developing more features!

I know ya have received a lot of requests for further improvements to the current camera system. I’m not sure if you’ve already seen this request, but I made a post suggesting a number of features based on my real world experience in photography and filmmaking, as well as in VRChat.

Advanced Camera Control System: For Virtual Filmmaking & Photography

I’m sure you may have seen a few of these features requested, but I’m curious to hear your take on them as well. There are people that have also added on to this list in the comments section with some very useful features that I believe can really help contribute to the constantly growing content creation in VRChat.

In the meantime, thank you again and keep the updates coming! I’ll see ya round, guys!

was wondering if there could be a button to hide avtar without clicking on somone as they may be wearing an avtar you dont want to see becuase of audio etc but in some worlds you cant physicially hit the persons sphere when trying to hide so maybe there could be a button to hide avatar of the person under the moderation section? this ould be a very good change to allow people in game worlds or such ith spawn rooms to hide annoying or performance heavy avtars withou having to be near the person in such an avatar.

Clicking on the slider is more convenient to switch to the sound section, but for now it’s for beta testing, all in one place, as I understand it

What about a menu where you can actually mess around with Graphic options?
Sometimes it’s hard to get the game into Fullscreen e.g since it’s kinda weird on desktop + Vsync would be a really cool option. Ever since I tried CVR I have noticed how smooth that makes the feeling of the game and that would be great on VRC !

i was initially upset about mod removal, but with the chance of avi scaling, and even flying around now possible, i may get my vrc+ back. MAYBE!

Great new features, very happy and excited about everything that has been a shown lately. However, I do have a few concerns. Sorry in advance if this is formatted weirdly.

Firstly, I believe the personal mirror should be on the first page of the action menu so that it is a lot more accessible to players as at the moment it is pretty buried and I don’t believe it really fits in the setting category.

Secondly, for new players to VRChat and also for players who don’t follow all the updates on discord there really should be an in-game message that brings up the change log that automatically appears when you start the game for the first time after each new update. This would ensure that ALL players are aware of all the new features/fixes as not everyone takes the time to read change logs on discord or other sources. There could even be a button somewhere that you can click on that will show you the change log again should the user want to read it again.

One last thing is that there are no in-game guides that show new players how to setup calibration for FBT In VRChat. I believe it would be a great feature so users don’t need to figure it out on there own. This could be solved by perhaps adding a tooltip that tells the user to “click on both trigger to activate calibration” or something like that.

Overall though, I’m very happy with the new updates. Thanks for taking the time to read!

Edit your launch options in Steam. add --screen-fullscreen 1 --screen-width 1920 --screen-height 1080 changing the width and height values to match your screen resolution. And that will fix it.

Awesome update as always,

Going forward, whatever the design will be on scaling, I would like to make a request to please allow avatars to keep having the ability drive a scale factor through animators (even if it becomes a native in-menu slider) Allowing animators to drive scale would allow for a lot of creative implementations based of elements like movements OSC or physbone interactions (think of two avatars, a magician with a wand and a lovely assistant, that have contact senders/receivers allowing the magician to do tricks on the assistant for example)

Only having it in a menu makes the feature as exciting as adjusting a volume slider in the audio menu. (I can see both working in unison though through some sort of shared “AvatarScalePercentage” parameter that can be overridden through the game (world/menu) or avatar depending on who sent a scale-instruction last)

I will say I personally feel as if Chromatic Aberration in particular is worthwhile to have on a similar multiplicative toggle to Bloom as overtly strong uses of that effect are known to induce headaches and nausea in people over time (many traditional video games which don’t allow you to toggle it have fairly popular mods purely to address that. I’d actually go as far as to say people generally dislike bad CA more than bad Bloom, at least outside of VRC (LOOKING AT YOU BLOODBORNE))

The rest of the PP stack though is largely fine as-is and mostly up to subjective taste rather than any accessibility concerns. I feel as if the current state of creator-to-user democratization trickles down toggles well enough for this to not be an issue of real concern; at least not with the menu as-is. Go fish.

Love the updates. Question however.

Is there plans to finally allow me to have a toggle for the Mic Icon and Invite notifications. Both are tied to each other currently, and it annoys me to no end that i can’t have the mic icon gone without losing the ability to see invite requests and notifications. I Don’t want UI that’s not needed on my screen. Having separate toggles would be great, Posting here since the canny had been ignored for so long.

I just have to say thank you for the amazing work you do to improve this amazing platform that has changed my life. I really don’t ask for much and am in no hurry. And I understand it’s a lot of work and I don’t want you to stress it. Some people are way too harsh and picky.

Great stuff in this post. But what I don’t like is the drones being able to go through walls. I’m a fan of more realistic designs and while you can use placespace mover to go through walls etc, you can’t walk normally through them so I don’t think a camera should be able to either. Could also be bad for privacy im certain worlds or cheating in games.

Similarly you mentioning flight is concerning to me. I really don’t like that concept being a standard feature. That means so many people are gonna be in all kinds of places all over the place. Making it less natural and real, harder to find people and cause more division of groups. I love being immersed and even dislike people sitting down on nothing. This is the first think I’m really worried about.

with EMM, I would actively use many of the 700+ I had, on the daily. This increase will be very helpful for me and my friends who will run through these very quickly.

Now we just need an avatar search function.

Any potential that if enough users hide an avatar by ID, it may end up automatically flagged? What exact behavior would come with that flag, I’m not certain what would be best.

That could just flag it for review by trust and safety, but otherwise not affect anything unless trust and safety actions on it. Downside, if the threshold is low enough, that’s a lot of potential extra work.

Or it could potentially automatically hide by ID if it passes a higher threshold of people manually hiding by ID, possibly also if those are spread over time.

There’s potential for abuse in any fully automated system, but I think there’s a balance that can be found with this one.

this is a LOT of stuff! it’s nice reading these dev updates to see what’s happening.
i have to respect how fast the team has been pushing out the dev updates and how fast they’ve been working on this stuff, especially after the large feedback from you-know-what.

Is there a way to make the speech bubble show in front of you? or right on your hand so you can show it to someone that is not looking at you? adding a few options to make it show above your head, in front of your avatar, or on your hand would be amazing. I plan on using the speech bubble and my main communication way, since drawing in the air has been always unsynced and people can’t read anything.

Y’all are doing such a great job with this rapid iterative approach to these updates while taking everyone’s feedback into account. Can’t wait to get my hands on the Chatboxes!

Will the drone camera have an orbit function, or allow for programable/savable/replayable movement by marking positional keyframes, or will it only be operated manually? If it sounds too “mod” like, i understand, but i’ve seen VRC twitter retweet some commercial-grade community content using Camera Animations several times, so any extra feature the developers are willing to throw towards the camera is a win/win. More creative control for people like me who work in the film industry, (or any content creators in VRC) and more for VRC to show off and advertise their platform.

Another thing I want to see if it hasn’t been suggested yet is auto and manual foot immobilizer options for half-body users. I remember when i first got my headset and looked down and turned my head seeing my VR legs turning with my head without moving my real legs and my brain had a mini freak out. XD
