Developer Update - 11 August 2022

This is amazing! But I wish you could also add an option to save photos as JPG (with scalable JPG quality) so we can reduce the file size. PNG at 4K/8K takes up a lot of space. Some people just want to have high res pics with lossy quality. I only use PNG when I need to edit the photos in post-production.

YES! No more manually rotating the photos. Photographers will love this.

I think it would be great if there’s more customizability other thanBrightness and Bloom. Some worlds have really bad post processing effects and filters that would be better turned off. For example, color filters, contrast, saturation, chromatic aberration, vignette, motion blur (for desktop), and depth of field.

Also maybe a forced performance options like turn off dynamic lighting and ambient occlusion since most worlds can be unoptimized when those are present.

Love this! Though I would like to add one more option to have the mirror to force show everything in the environment, including UI elements so we can see nameplates, camera UI and whatnot in the mirror. I used to take a mirror selfie where I’m holding the camera UI like me holding a phone.

One more feature I’d like to see:
• Player immobilizer - so non-FBT players can move their head without affecting the rotation/movement of the body (especially in sitting/laying position).

Thank you for the hardwork and gathering all the player’s feedbacks! I’m most excited to see more camera updates since I’m a content creator and I use the camera a lot.

For the first time, I’m… actually legitimately disappointed this is still going forward like this. One could say, “Just clear your ‘showAvatars’” I could but I’d eventually end right back up in this spot only to repeat it endlessly. As much as I wanted this feature, it is effectively useless for me and probably many others…

What about a menu where you can actually mess around with Graphic options?
Sometimes it’s hard to get the game into Fullscreen e.g since it’s kinda weird on desktop + Vsync would be a really cool option. Ever since I tried CVR I have noticed how smooth that makes the feeling of the game and that would be great on VRC !

This has been asked for a lot previously, we don’t have plans for it quite yet. It isn’t the same, but you can force your own framerate cap using the --fps=90 launch option.

I’ve put in your feedback and made a note internally, though.

I can see this eventually being an option-- at least being able to swap to JPG.

This feature is meant primarily to address accessibility concerns (aside from the single aesthetic filter the engineer slipped in) so I’m personally iffy on adding more features to this. This seems better suited to an advanced camera filter mode.

Seen this requested a few times, I think we have it tracked internally

This has been requested a few times and we’re tracking on it internally, but no ETA yet

 Does alt-Enter not work?

Yeah I feel the same way, I personally see it should be supported under expermental basis. Similar to Horizon.

Just simply forcing the view point to be attached to the head bone whould be more than enough to satisfy people until a more permanent solution is implemented.

I understand this feature may break or posible to make the menu unoperable. But I’ve been dealing with these bugs with ScaleGoesBrrr.

I had this feature befoee EAC and let me scocalize with people with diffeent avtar hights. Especially in some music events such as Ghost Club which most people’s avatars are at hip height to me.

But now I am forced to make several copies of my avatar and update them individually just to be able to the same thing that was done by a slider.

Please consider adding Hide by Author as well, There is a lot of accounts that are solely used to upload crashers and will really help getting rid of a lot of crashers. And this feature would be good to hide Corrupted Asset bundle crashers but if there is no way to get the Avatar ID how are we supposed to hide those kind of crashers. Its not like we are going to be able to click on the guy and hide it because are game will already closed.

I know its not correct but for every world I have a better experience with post processing off in every world i visit. Yes worlds look like crap but I don’t care. I want everything to be washed out regardless if that’s what the world author wanted. I have yet to find a world that is easier on my eyes with the post processing stack enabled.

I gotta say, these dev updates are really great to see. The fact that you guys are talking not only about features coming in the next beta and live release, but also about plans for the far future and even mentioning things that won’t be added gives such a great level of transparency that the community has been in need of for a while

Desktop camera! Let’s goooo! So looking forward to this. Wondering if it will have an option to have the camera view moved to a corner, center or full screen view and remove camera UI in camera view. Also swapping first person and camera views in the windows would be awesome.

Hey do you know if its a bug or a feature for the portable mirror to no longer show in the photo/stream cameras?

What I mean is there going to be an attempt to allow for animations to scale us at the moment like the scale goes brr mod, before VRC adds the ability to scale into the game. Right now our animations scale the model but our viewball stays the same. With the mod our viewball would move and scale to stay inside the head as the avatar gets bigger or smaller. Basically wondering if a “fix” would happen to make those animations work again.

To be totally fair, a lot of that specific issue boils down to the systems as they currently exist not providing a better solution for your situation regarding trust-tagging people. The solution could ostensibly end up being something totally different (showing information regarding amount of times/days you’ve been in an instance with someone, allowing you to write notes/apply tags to others with a click or two, etc.) and wouldn’t trample on the toes of this specific feature’s UX.

My BIGGEST want is avatar scaling, so to hear that it is something that will most likely come at some point is a huge relief and also very exciting to hear its gonna work with every avatar instead of being tied to ones with that toggle. I love that its gonna happen! I made a canny a while ago discussing avatar scaling, and im glad that we’re getting it at some point.

We talked about this previously, and decided against it. Hiding by Author has some serious social and creative implications we’re not OK with.

If you run into people that upload lots of crashers or corrupted things, please report them to the Trust and Safety team.

No, the way this mod worked (as far as I understand it from context, because I cannot look at the mod itself due to licensing reasons) is not how we want to implement it, because it is a limited method that requires avatar changes to work.

We don’t want to do it the way they did it because we know we can do it better, basically. That sounds kinda smug or something, sorry.

But overall I am happy to report that I’m very well pleased on some of the improvements that vrc Dev team has made in the past several weeks.

This part would be an especially cool perfomance savior, it’s obvious that it might break some Aestetic parts of world creation, but if i randomly join a world with 20 people and get 15 fps - first of all i want stable frames, and only after cool looking lighting and shadows.

Having an immobilize avatar feature for players with stick drift would be really nice, as well as third person and headturn/tilting in desktop for more interaction.

Alt + Enter leaves annoying black bars at the top and bottom of my screen for some reason :man_shrugging:

Because there is no medium between “Hide most Very Poor avatars besides the one I show” and “SHOW THIS NO MATTER WHAT.”

I don’t think you are considering the current UX flow for those who are hiding Very Poor avatars by default and only showing them selectively. Because, to be quite honest, I absolutely despise the default fallback avatars and players are terrible at uploading their own. So I just give up and Show them.

And now I have no defense against super annoying avatars that play loud music. Sure I can hide the person, but then I’m suck guessing when they change out of the avatar before showing them again.

Hide Avatar By ID would likely only be used for nuisance avatars, and we just have to deal with it just because we have to balance between performance and seeing peoples’ avatars.

My last post was in regard to the fact the Graphics Quality setting doesn’t work correctly, but got no response nor has the bug report even been acknowledged since it was posted in April. If nothing comes of this message, I won’t bring it up again as to not spam.

I understand time is probably tight and devs are busy. But an acknowledgement (tracked internally or something) on the bug report would atleast give peace of mind that bugs have effected performance for nearly a year are being acknowledged and not ignored.

Link to the canny bug report if needed:
