Hey! I’m Aurora, my actual name is Ella, so go by whichever you prefer.
I’m a VR addict like any other VRChat user that got hit hard by the “BUY A VR HEADSET” propaganda that was the early years of this platform.
I’m interested in the future of VR, always terrified of monopolies and anti-consumer practices rearing their ugly head into this medium. But I also understand that companies are huge boats that need to keep themselves afloat at any cost because billions of people depend on their services worldwide. And that there’s always a reason behind every decision from a company that might seem God-awful on the surface.
I want to see a future where we have cute AI anime girls roaming VRChat, that can think and reason. I don’t want to use VRChat as testing grounds for the real world. But moreso, as a starting off point to build the future. Where we all live in a full-dive transhumanist “utopia” (utopic ideals are always a slippery slope, hence the quotes).
These days, I’m leading K2VR Team, we work on Amethyst, an upcoming open-source extensible app for full-body tracking with Kinect, PS Move and other devices (Anything you feel like writing a plugin for, we have an API, and it’s easier than writing an OpenVR driver.)
I like to think that I’m connected pretty closely with the “inner VRChat community”, but despite trying to make a name for myself, Kinect full-body gets a reputation of annoying children and garbage tracking caused by years of neglect from developers and users alike. So until I get off my butt and make something “worthwhile” to y’all, the 3 years I worked on this are invisible.
