Hey so with new information being shown online do you think it’d be safe to have Persona be thrown out the window in terms of age verification? Are there ones that actually are safe?

Much as I wish that was the answer, we already got events like Furality asking for age verification. So, no, can’t do that.
Could push vrchat to change things by canceling vrc+ across the board. Least you can vote with your wallet if you do that.
Age Verification has been a strong request to some extent for a ton of the communities that go around in VRChat. It’s not the best thing that we have, but it shifts the responcibility.
Persona has a contract/deal with VRChat to do the verifications, whatever is behind it we’re unpurvy to. But that means that if for whatever reason Persona does an incorrect verification of someone. VRChat can say “we let this person enter into an age verified instance because persona did us wrong” and rely back on that contract. If VRchat themselves where responsible, they’d be fined directly. Rather then persona having that responcibility. (Not including reports)
Cancelling VRC+ won’t do much of a thing either, as most people will still buy it anyway. Or have bought it for a full year upfront rather then buying it monthly. And if people do cancel, there is enough of an influx of other people buying VRC+ that it makes up the difference. The only case where this would work is with changes like Discord is pulling with their “Teen by default” changes, where such a major part of the community cancels their NItro and/or benefits AND makes such an PR nightmare of an outrour that they try and damage control. But knowing how investors and pr departments work? They’ll eat the blow.
Furality is just a paid public server, if you have to verify your identity to go social places you’re probably not in the right area.
i thoroughly can understand VRChat’s contract with Persona. I don’t like Persona as a company, and I too wish there were more options available to acquire a verification status for your account. Also not everyone is able to identify with Persona, or wants to for other reasons.
My first thought that comes to mind, is VRChat distributing forms that can require notarizing that have minimal PII, and can be processed directly through VRChat. An issue with this is that this would be a slower process, and requires manpower. Another catch is that this is process that requires printing of paper, filling out, then going to a notary public to be notarized (which also is not free).
I mean this is not a terrible Idea, Notary can be online too, I signed some loan paperwork and needed a notary, and they did it via webcam. But yeah using your local notary is a super less invasive private info issue really. But, VRC would not know then if the ID had been used before for another account.
