What is with the widespread false reporting? Why am I getting banned for telling someone to stop groping me?

so, this is my second ban ever. and it occurred right after my first ever ban. Recently, vrchat updated their systems for automatic flagging and to allow vrchat’s system to go “ban-happy” …but if an avatar has clothes, cant take them off, is well covered, then falls within vrchat tos of nsfw and nudity policy as sfw. yet i am on my second ban. I am going to lose my vrchat account for being sfw, and unless the team does something FAST, YOU TOO WILL LOSE YOUR ACCOUNT FOR BEING SAFE FOR WORK. at this point, I am fully convinced that I am going to lose my account for having avatars from fortnite. YES FORTNITE, you know, the knitty gritty adult themed nsfw game that no kid should play? OFC NOT, ITS A GAME FOR KIDS 13+ maybe even younger like 7 in some cases. but still.. how.. just how. because i got in the way of a pervert groping me and my friend. now vrchat banned me. my avi was a sfw cerberus. i think she’s pretty. I also have a sfw human girl. she has boobs, they dont get undressed or show anything. but she is a woman so i should probably get permabanned for that i guess? Also, you need to make sure that the pervert who was molesting me and my friend should stay on vrchat and not get banned ever. Since that’s apparently the show that the ‘trust and safety team’ run here

P.s. My account is YEARS old, i have thousands of hours on this game from just hanging out since where i live takes a lot of gas and money just to get to civilization. so vrchat is easier for me. I have never been banned before, I probably only got reported by individuals who didnt like that I called them out for being creepy or sexual. And the only time ive ever been banned after YEARS of playing, is when the ban system is edited to go ban happy… so many people are losing their accounts to false reports. there are even troll groups just reporting people for no reason AND SUCCEEDING. VRCHAT IS NOT SAFE! DO NOT GO TO PUBLIC WORLDS! get off vrchat for now until the next update… you will probably see a ban or two or perma ban for even wearing a spiderman avatar. Cause yes, as we all know, spiderman content has NEVER been for everyone, let alone kids. …not ever

I was also sexualized in the vrchat error bot. I guess that was my fault too. I should get reported for wearing that nsfw avatar that the vrchat moderation team made called “Error Bot” it has no features, nothing nsfw, but people want it for some reason anyway.. and I get banned…. because…. No one knows

Imo this alone may not be enough in some cases. I don’t know what your avatar was specifically to comment further, but I can give some general guidance / an educational pivot.

Skinned mesh renderers can be culled by worlds. If the body and clothes are separate skinned mesh renderers (with different bounding box sizes), the clothes could get culled and expose the body if there’s triangles under the clothes. (One of adult-themed private worlds by liernana is good for testing this, in a jail film set section.) This may also happen in corner vision in VR if the bounding box of a skinned mesh renderer object (for example, clothes) is too small.

Some avatars also appear incorrectly to those with animations off/impostors/mobile versions, due to an error by its author.

When two transparent materials of the same render queue are rendered in one-pass, only the closest one in depth will be rendered. This means e.g. transparent clothes behind another transparent object may be culled. Dissolve toggles require mesh materials to be set to transparent, so these are also affected by “magnifying glasses” that aim to achieve this trick.

Shaders can also read the texture file and expose the texture on another mesh. There’s a private world (“What does a scanner see”) for testing this. You definitely shouldn’t need to have provocative textures on a VRChat avatar in public.

I’ve also seen several public avatars that have missing expression menu toggles, but can be toggled/exposed with OSC controls. (I like using VRChat OSC Helper by EleDeNSFW for this.) If you upload public avatars, make sure to delete any provocative parameters and animator layers as well.

What was the stated ban reason / content in the email you’ve received about your ban?

Which one was it, Fortnite, the Cerberus avatar or this “human”?

To appeal a VRChat ban, submit a moderation ticket on the VRChat’s Help Desk.

Take my tip of personal advice (I’m not part of the VRChat Trust & Safety team or anything): Be a more approachable human. Admit mistakes, promise to take measurable actions to not to do what got you banned again. If it was a private avatar you’ve used that got you bopped, promise and demonstrate to have fixed the underlying issue. Rarely there’s a disagreement about applied policy to overturn a ban based on a rant like this forum thread alone. The messages seen here in this thread are hard to digest, and I suspect the reasons may have been more behavioral related.

The Developer Update - December 18 2025 tells exactly what to do avoid getting bopped, most likely. Alongside the Community Guidelines.

first off, thank you for taking the time to look at this.

I have had two appeals denied already. I am going to lose my account to random bans for no reason. I am being automatically flagged as nsfw, I am not using nsfw avatars. So I am to conclude that I will be banned for abiding by vrchat tos. no, i did not take pics thinking i might be banned. My account has been active for years. I have never had any issues before. So much so that I have all nametags turned off for immersion. Now, even after My ban is lifted, Im afraid to go back on. As far as be approachable..? i have gotten thousands of friend requests… I’ve emptied my friends list multiple times cos its either ppl just having me do my boop dance, or just sit in front of a mirror, or just go quiet. I am a mute, I usually keep to myself. I try to be encouraging if someone is sad or yes “meet people in the middle” all the time…. I just think the new update has you and everyone at risk… My significant other also plays. she also uses sfw avis. she has not been on in weeks, tried last night and found herself banned. Hundreds of other users have reported logging in confused and banned.
