I have no idea what causes this. I could hear every player without issue yesterday. But today no matter which server I log into, I cannot hear any of the players. They can hear me I think.
Searching on the internet didn’t lead anywhere. I reinstalled the game, checked virtually every Windows setting and still no luck. Can anyone help.
I was having this same issue, here’s what resolved it:
Go to VRchat in your steam library
on the far right, click the gear icon and click “Properties”
Go to “Betas”
on “Beta Participation”, in the drop down menu, change “None” to “open-beta - Open Beta”
Hey, I’m not sure if you’re still looking for an answer, but I know what’s going on.
The day you tried to play but couldn’t hear anyone was the day they released their newest build. It has a lot of changes, but the most important one of note would be the change from ONSP to Steam audio.
ONSP was VRchat’s original spatial audio output software. It’s basically what made VRchat have 3d spatial audio. But they decided to switch to Steam audio due to complications and technical difficulties. The update, however, was nothing short of a buggy mess. And a few unlucky individuals such as yourself and I, are left unable to hear players because of it.
There isn’t a fix, but I believe you can play on desktop and should be able to hear people, just not on your VR headset. We’re gonna have to wait until the devs push out a patch or something of the sort.
