We’ve already been in a situation like that with SPS-I and even with a year or two of heads up they decided against it in the end, I think they even removed whatever notice they had to shader developers asking them to add SPS-I support.
In the end though, regardless of if it is SPS-I or motion vectors, it means a whole lot of content that just won’t render correctly anymore (which means content that is left unusably broken), because of creators that stopped playing VRChat, creators that lost the files or creators that just can’t be bothered to update, it is a rough spot to be in for VRChat.
Not exactly what we wanted, but it’s better than nothing, which is what I expected to get. It’s still absolutely ridiculous that Instance Settings got pushed to to the public branch in such a clearly unfinished state in the first place.
At least this removes the awful unnecessary extra step in instance creation flow that was added previously, but it still doesn’t entirely respect disabled content set by world creators if instance owners can still override them anyway, no matter how buried in menus it is. At the very least, Friends+, Group+, and Group Public should not be able to override content disabled by world creators.
Soba will exist alongside Udon, not seen them mention if they’ll eventually start trying to do runtime conversion or if it is even possible.
The benefits are also seemingly minimal from what we have seen, most of the benefits with Soba seemingly being when programming the scripts with its extra capabilities.
will the VRC Spatial Audio Source component get overhauled?
in its current state, it’s so confusing and buggy that every creator I know never uses it and ignores the warning saying you have to use it.
like, for example, whenever I add it to an Audio Source, it corrupts my custom falloff settings sometimes?? like the curve in the GUI is gone forever until I fully reset the component. and in some circumstances it also breaks Reverb Zone interaction, too.
and it was never explained to me what it’s supposed to do anyways, so for the past 4 years I’ve just never added it to any project ever.
The VRC Spatial Audio Source has been broken for years, it honestly should be depreciated at this point. No one uses it, and it’s baffling that the SDK continues to annoy us about it still.
Here’s hoping if Steam Audio ever makes it to rollout it will completely and utterly remove any mention of the VRC Spatial Audio Source component. I would like it and the frustrations its caused removed from my memory.
I have a friend that recently added them to their world, they read warnings. I guess I skipped over them. I would like to know more, from the warning and the fact that spatialization still works, maybe they are added at runtime? If the components are added at runtime I’d love to know what settings are used.
Gain of 10, which should be a boost, or a default is clearly quieter than the default wit out
Great profile updates - As an addition, it would be great to see a “friends” section of your profile - a section that is only visible to your friends - somewhere you can safely put your social media and other contact details, without having them visible to the general public =]
Instead of pronouns I think it should be a short info place… like country etc, and why not gender? I don’t like when there’s more and more stuff added to the nameplats, the icons is already such overkill. Thankfully I have nameplats off… Love getting the profile improved though.
YouTube is experimenting with some sort of new aggressive IP-based block on videoplayback urls - perhaps to replace or complement the existing “sign in to confirm you are not a bot” error on the player endpoint. This produces an HTTP 403 error on videoplayback urls, regardless of client and protocol (HTTPS, DASH, HLS, UMP, SABR, ONESIE).
If you are seeing this for the first time, backing off further downloading/requests for a little while may help to lift it. It is recommended to make use of the yt-dlp sleep options to help avoid it.
I can attest to this as I’ve also had issues accessing YouTube anywhere else that wasn’t directly on their website while logged in. (Discord, FreeTube, Incognito Browser, etc.)
