Development Updates

VRC+ Tenure Badges

We touched on this last Dev Update, but in case you missed it:

Users with an active VRC+ subscription who have been subscribed for at least one month will now receive a new Tenure Badge!

These badges reflect your total subscription time across the years. If you’ve previously subscribed to VRC+, that time will be counted toward your badge—whether your subscription was continuous or not.

You can view your badge (and other players’ badges) directly on user profiles!

Similar to the “Supporter” badge, the Tenure Badge is only visible while you have an active subscription. However, if your subscription lapses and you resubscribe later, your badge will pick up right where it left off—your progress is saved!

Tenure is calculated from both personal subscriptions and any gifted subscriptions you’ve received.

For more information on the new Tenure Badges, please visit our community-driven wiki here!

Profile Refresh!

A profile editor dialog will be available in VRChat with 2025.2.1, where you can see and adjust all your profile’s pictures, text, links, and spoken languages from one central place.

You will be able to add your pronouns to your profile. If you set them, we’ll show them on your profile on the web and in VRChat, as well as on your nameplate so people can quickly know how to refer to you.

Don’t want to show them anymore? Set them back to “Unlisted”. You can do this on the web, on mobile, or in the new profile editor in VRChat.

Web Fixes

A couple of small changes from the web team this week:

  • We updated the tag editors for avatars which as previously announced unfortunately required deleting the previous tag values. Apologies for the mixup here!
  • Fixed an issue that prevented access to the list of mutual friends in a group for some people.
  • Updated profile views and editor to add support for user pronouns.
  • We have been busy with some other stuff you’ll hear more about soon! :eyes:

Instance Creation Settings Change

When we introduced instance settings to VRChat, we added an extra step when creating an instance to let you select which features you’d like enabled in your instance.

We’ve since seen from feedback that most users prefer to create the instance using the defaults set by the world author and then change the instance settings afterwards via the Quick Menu’s “Here” tab if they need to, so we’ll be removing this extra step again in our next major release.

Thanks very much for your ongoing feedback around instance settings!

VCC Updates Soon

These updates should roll out to the VCC in the next few months!

We also have general speed and stability improvements on the way. Look forward to seeing those in a future Dev Update!

I know what you mean, I use my Group banner to designate that I’m non-binary but now I can use the pronouns field! Very exciting.

Loving the new website changes, especially the prep for im guessing an avatar searcher and the future creator economy avatar shop!! will it be a update thats quite far away? or perhaps in the coming months? Also as an avatar style sugestion, im surprised “robot” isnt a style listed, as its one of the core avatar types you can find in vrchat.

the new pronoun thing is exciting ^-^

Pronouns are an important part of peoples’ identities. Whether you agree or not, people have a preference as to how they’d like to be called.

Regardless, I’m super happy that the pronouns field is now used! I remember setting mine when it first hit the API (a few months ago now) and only people with VRCX were seeing it haha

Certified hell yeah dev update

Super happy about pronouns finally being shown! Although nameplates are getting kind of cluttered now imo. Maybe they could have an option like banners to only show when you open your menu?

Pronouns in bio/nameplates is sincerely hype as hell. But theres a few questions:

  • Will we be able to have a history to pick from similar to the Statuses for plural/DID folks or people who might be genderfluid/change around?

  • Are pronouns ALWAYS on if someone has nameplates shown? Or can they just turn off other peoples pronouns like you can statuses?

Cant wait to just write “No you” as my pronoun

damn no bug fixes for the dysync of player positions they added a few updates ago, still ipv6 issues for no reason, the api menu pausing updates and the random unity code errors but hey pronouns must come first :)

At the moment the field is shown on nameplates whenever you can see someone’s full display name. The intent is for them to be easy to reference when you’re meeting someone for the first time.

It doesn’t have a history right now but that’s a good idea! You can, of course, put whatever pronouns you like in there if you have an order of preference or use multiple. Maybe pop a feature request in Canny though?

This would be a good default. If an option doesn’t get added, it’d be nice to see pronouns become more integrated with the nameplate instead of sticking out as a separate bubble. Although I’m a little worried that the field might get treated as extra status/advertising space that can’t be hidden instead of using it the intended way.

udon 2 when :eyes: (without soba perchance)

Speaking of grass station, the world advertised. For steam audio sounds glitch do we go on the canny or we should contact the world creator about audio glitch

I think there is a canny section for steam audio.

Might have to put in a canny for the history then!

And I’m glad they show all the time if you see a persons full name plate. They should be. Tbh people shouldn’t just be able to hide and ignore them.
