Developer Update - 5 September 2024

These updates are looking fantastic, but I think if sharing normal photos taken with the vrc camera is going to be a part of this, it needs to have some functionality without vrc+.

Sure, lock stickers and emoji sharing behind this since they are vrc+ features anyway, but having an easy way to share normal images with other users without having to leave the platform (going to discord) should be a baseline feature. this will be too good to just keep behind a paywall.

Even if there is a limitation like you can only share 1 or a couple images at a time without vrc+, this would be a great new feature for everyone and I feel would improve the playform over strictly being vrc+.

Keep stickers to one placed per user, and this should stay balanced well enough.

Also, they are lit by light probes, right? They look like it in the video.

I also hope we get to re-size the stickers! Maybe based on the distance your controller is from a surface when placing?

I’d really love to place little hidden stickers in places, I don’t see myself always wanting to place them at the size they are in the video.

Would be nice if the menu stuff was shifted a step. By this i mean, it would be a lot better if non-VRC+ could use the basic menu colouring system (colour should get applied to the loading scene too), but give VRC+ users the ability to set uploaded images as menu backgrounds.

This would be fantastic especially for streamers, where they could have their own branding inside their menu to flavour up their streams.

But also normal users who are fatigued by the teal menus wouldn’t have to stare at it anymore.

. . .
I’ve had more VRC+ ideas in the past as well, but i can’t remember them right now.

Will the camera automatically save photos now to share or will we have to manually save them to the gallery?

This is good in all. But I really think you should address the issue involving the consistant crashes EAC gives players. One of my friends on a older device that can run the game alright has issues where EAC constantly blue screens their device. Causing them to have trouble playing the game. I get you all ain’t going to get rid of it, but try to fix it then at least with a better implementation. Or your OWN Anti-cheat. It’s causing stress and drama on my end

So… will there also be animated stickers? :D

I had this issue quite a lot in the past, it’s not specifically VRChat, i have made aggressive posts about this in the past - EAC BSoD plague continues

It’s a design flaw with the EOS version of EAC and happens in numerous games. I’ve done a lot of research and digging into this problem in the past. Ever since i migrated my OS to SSD it happens rarely, but probably just becaues it doesn’t timeout as often, but if it did timeout i’d probably still BSoD.

Nobody has gotten EAC to fix this, and there’s no consumer pipelines for contacting Epic Games about the issue; the only solution is for game devs to pressure Epic if they can, or else remove EAC entirely. That said, i haven’t found cases of the non-EOS version causing BSoD, which is how i concluded this, but the non-EOS version is enterprise.

In the video, the question posed is ‘What would encourage others to buy VRC+?’ While that’s a valid point, I believe a better question might be ‘What can we do to make VRC+ something people wouldn’t want to miss out on?’ That’s the basis for my ideas.

While VRC+ was essentially brought about by people wanting to support VRChat. I think VRChat is at a point where people would be genuinely interested in purchasing VRC+ for enhanced features. But that’s just my perspective.

Anyways, here are some of my ideas and while some might be more challenging to implement, I think they’re worth considering. I know some of us can already achieve this with Unity, but having it directly implemented could make a big difference in terms of ease and accessibility.

Visual Effects and Animations

VRChat+ members could unlock exclusive particle effects and animations to enhance their avatars or in-world actions. These could include:

  • Particle Trails: When moving or performing actions, avatars could leave behind particle trails such as sparkles, fire, or light streaks.
  • Aura Effects: Customisable auras around the avatar, like glowing outlines or floating particles, that change with mood or emotes.
  • Unique Emotes: Special animated emotes, such as dance moves, gestures, or paired interactions, which only VRChat+ members can access.
  • Avatar Animations: More detailed or fluid animations when walking, running, or using items, making VRChat+ avatars feel more premium.

Custom UI Themes

VRChat+ members could personalise their user interface with custom themes. This could include:

  • Hue Sliders: Simple adjustments to the colour of the interface, allowing users to set their UI to their favourite colours.
  • Themed Icons: Offer a selection of icons in different styles, like futuristic, fantasy, or minimalistic designs.
  • Animated UI Elements: Special animated transitions for VRChat+ members, such as smoother menu animations or effects when interacting with the UI.
  • Dark and Light Modes: VRChat+ members could toggle between a sleek dark mode or vibrant light mode, or even create custom blends.

Exclusive Events

Hosting exclusive events for VRChat+ members could create a sense of community and exclusivity. These events could include:

  • Meet-and-Greets: Sessions with popular VRChat creators, artists, or influencers, allowing members to interact and engage in real time.
  • Concerts and Performances: Exclusive virtual concerts, theatre performances, or live shows hosted in private worlds accessible only to VRChat+ members.
  • Workshops and Tutorials: Exclusive building, scripting, or artistic workshops hosted by experienced creators or developers for VRChat+ members.
  • Vote on Future Updates: Enable players to prioritise which future updates they’d like to see.

Exclusive Avatars

Rotating exclusive avatars could be a great way to offer ongoing value to VRChat+ members:

  • Limited-Time Avatars: Introduce a new high-quality avatar every month, which members can only claim during that period, creating a sense of rarity.
  • Themed Avatar Packs: Release themed avatar packs, such as robots, fantasy creatures, or historical figures, with unique animations or particle effects.

Virtual Pets

Virtual pets can offer VRChat+ members a unique way to engage socially while adding a personal touch to their experience.

  • Customisable Companions: Offer pets that users can personalise with different skins, accessories, or behaviours.
  • Interactive Features: These pets could follow users around, perform tricks on command, or interact with the environment or other players.
  • Emotional Reactions: Pets that react to the player’s mood, emotes, or world environment, enhancing the immersive experience.
  • Collectible Pets: Rotating seasonal pets or themed pets, such as dragons, robots, or cute creatures, that VRChat+ members can collect and show off.

Enhanced Voice and Audio Features

Allow VRChat+ members to enhance how they communicate through voice and audio:

  • Voice Modifiers: Exclusive voice effects, such as robotic, ghostly, or echo filters, to modify how the user sounds.
  • Spatial Audio Customisation: Options for VRChat+ members to adjust how sound is heard in different worlds, creating personalised spatial audio settings.
  • Personal Audio Zones: Create a personal zone where voice levels can be customised (e.g., make your voice louder for specific avatars while in groups).
  • Unique Sound Effects: Users could assign custom sound effects for their avatars, like footsteps, teleport sounds, or interaction noises.

Unique Loading Screens

Custom loading screens could make transitions between worlds more engaging for VRChat+ members:

  • Custom Backgrounds: Allow members to upload or select from a range of exclusive backgrounds (e.g., landscapes, cityscapes, or art styles).
  • Loading Music: Offer exclusive soundtracks or let users pick their own music to play during loading screens.
  • Animated Load Screens: Exclusive animated scenes or themed transitions that add a premium touch while waiting for a world to load.

Early Access to New Features

Giving VRChat+ members early access to new features would make them feel more involved in the platform’s development:

  • Beta Testing: Allow VRChat+ members to access and test new worlds, avatars, or tools before they’re officially released, offering feedback to developers.
  • Exclusive Previews: VRChat+ members could receive sneak peeks of upcoming events, features, or updates, allowing them to prepare and get excited ahead of time.
  • Development Q&A Sessions: Host special Q&A sessions where VRChat+ members can interact directly with the development team, gaining insights into future updates.

how do you migrate a OS to SSD? I don’t have this issue but if i can help fix this issue for my friend. It’ll relieve so much drama going on.

I should also add that a big chunk of what would incentivise people to purchase VRC+, from interacting with people, more than anything, is not the features it provides, that is often secondary.

The real question everyone should be asking is “why someone would want to support VRChat in the first place?” People want to support companies they think are doing well, listening to them, and giving them what they want; they want to support a product that is functioning well and that they are satisfied with. Dangling tasty carrots for people to bite is only gonna get so many subs, though it is beneficial.

Some recent turnovers, such as the layoffs, have put some people in difficult situations where they are apprehensive on the state of the company, especially considering the game industry climate currently, people are becoming increasingly skeptical, and thus hesitant to subscribe.

So if i were to put it simply: i think we should be considering more “what will improve peoples’ confidence in VRChat as a company and a product?”

Currently VRChat has a bit of uphill climbing to show the public that they are still doing well. Doing passes on essential QoL stuff, fixing long standing annoyances like having an option to keep the dynamic nearplane enabled between sessions for example, addressing/changing the suspicious monitoring ToS (which would get my VRC+ sub back almost right away), and things like that…

Despite everything, i always hope for the best, but many people can fear the worst. Improving communication and shifting some priority from world dev to end-user experience has been a very good step.

With a lot of pain and suffering… it’s an advanced technical procedure with a lot of very specific tools. If you have to tell them to do it, they should not attempt it.

Damn, His device is a old laptop. Well, thanks anyways. Just was trying to see if i could stop his blue screens

That actually does sound cool.

I love the stickers and sharing, but I really hope avatars will be included with this. I’d LOVE for a way to share avatars ONLY with my friends. Making them public puts them at risk for showing up in avatar search worlds, which I really don’t want. I have Quest friends who don’t have a PC and can’t upload things I make for them, and since sharing account info breaks TOS, I really think there needs to be a way to share avatars with only people that creators select.

Sorry, but as a VRC+ user, I’d rather see meaningful QoL updates than something like this. To me, it feels like you’ve “wasted” your time on this. :face_holding_back_tears:

Please don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the work you’ve put into these features. However, in my opinion, they’re not the biggest priorities, nor the things I would prefer to see you working on.

These are really things that matter to me as a VRC+ user, not random stickers…

Where’s a DM system? Where are permissions for individual friend lists? When will I finally be able to change the instance type after it’s created? When can I reopen a closed instance?

Blockquote VRChat+ members could unlock exclusive particle effects and animations to enhance their avatars or in-world actions.

all of these can already be done by avatar creators, if they wanted they could add trail renderers particles or better animations.

Custom UI Themes
VRChat+ members could personalise their user interface with custom themes.

this is also already a VRC+ feature it was announced in this dev update

Exclusive Events

this can be done by event organizers however i dont personally see the point in doing this.

Vote on Future Updates: Enable players to prioritise which future updates they’d like to see.

Currently anyone can suggest or vote on features to be added to VRChat using the VRChat canny this probably shouldnt be locked behind VRC+

Exclusive Avatars

im not sure what the point of this would be when anyone can create avatars already

Virtual Pets

im not sure what you mean by this one but based on what you described this also kinda already exists with assets like the among us follower which anyone can put on any avatar they create

Enhanced Voice and Audio Features

all these features also already exist plenty of users use stuff like voice mod to change the way their voice sounds in game.
worlds creators can change the way sounds and voices work in their worlds.
personal audio zones sounds like earmuff mode if im understanding you correctly.
and avatar creators can put custom sound effects on avatars already

Early Access to New Features

VRChat does open betas to help test new features that might come to VRChat Open Beta - VRChat Wiki

It would be great to see an innovation like ( resonite? ) has with a player item inventory. I think it would streamline items and give a lot more freedom to creators to separate them from avatars. The share function would work really well with that

Sorry, but as a VRC+ user, I’d rather see meaningful QoL updates than something like this. To me, it feels like you’ve “wasted” your time on this.

We’ve pushed out QoL features with every patch for as long as I can remember, often addressing the most upvoted feedback topics! We’ll also very much continue to do so, but I think one thing to get clear is what is “QoL” and what is actually the development of a new, large, and complicated system.

Like, for example:

Where’s a DM system?

This is a massive topic. What does a “DM” system look like in VRChat? What about the additional moderation cost? Where does it go? What does it look like? Most of all: philosophically, is this something we want in VRChat? Part of the magic of VRChat – in contrast to other platforms – is the person-to-person contact. Does this risk putting that in jeopardy?

I am not the decision maker on things like this, nor am I a designer, but if I can come up with those questions, you can imagine how something like this can get complicated, fast.

Where are permissions for individual friend lists?

Same as the above! This is a lot of design work and complexity.

I’d probably list the last two as Quality of Life changes, but they also both impact infrastructure questions, which means they’re probably more complex than I can imagine.

Of course, this isn’t me replying to outright say no, but rather to help folks understand why some things that are seemingly simply (or are things that folks want badly) might be more complicated than they seem.

Finally, though – I just want to thank everyone for all the suggestions so far! We’ve been getting a ton of feedback on what folks want as part of VRC+, which is awesome!
