Well it was actually an interesting read, and it is a developer update, so it’ll likely have some technical stuff in it.
So uh hey do you remember like a year ago when y’all went to introduce “boops”, and there was a significantly large response in the ask forums of “please let us disable this, it will make our experience actively worse otherwise”? But that was apparently a thing that couldn’t be done because “reasons” and so the whole thing was scrapped? I mean that link to the open beta docs says “people immediately wanted it back” but like, maybe I’m misremembering, but I don’t recall anyone posting in that prior thread about how much they liked them, only how much they didn’t want them.
How ‘bout that ‘disabling boops’ option, then? I’ve already gotten a couple from randos on the beta and can’t even look to see if there’s a way to turn them off since I’m not on the beta. If we can turn off group notifications - something we knowingly ‘opt in’ to when joining a group - we really ought to be able to turn off something that, so far as I can tell, none of us are being given a choice to ‘opt in’ to or out of.
