Asking for D.O.B Illegal?

So now I have been kick from multiple Group worlds, for not giving my D.O.B, or let in. even I’m 18+ tagged.

If I’m right under the VRChat TOS, they cant ask for private info. AKA (D.O.B, ID)
13.2.p - use the Platform in manner that violated the legal rights (including privacy rights) of any person or third party;

And I just want to check with a VRChat mod if you can even ask for it???
I know that Groups may not enforce rules that supersede VRChat’s rules. does that count as mod rules

and just want to see how many ppl get asked for it.
and how they know its a real one. you don’t 1998/03/11 yep 100% mine!

I can’t wait for 2015/03/14 to be old enough to drink, or put another way 3/14/15

Hey @Midnight_NOW If it a 18+ group the staff as the right to ask for your D.O.B to stop underage kids from joining.

but if he is age-verified through that’s a thing there’s like no way he can hack it so yeah he should be let in

.. I’m 18+ Taged.
and if you know law and legal info, your (DOB) is considered personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

and that in protected by VRChat TOS

and to STOP underage kids. they can lie its not hard.

it is quite annoying and a lot of people saying that kids have “hacked it”(which is false btw) so they join crappy virtual bars. like some folk need to take a min and think. if a kid did hack the verify system I’m pretty sure they are smart enough to remember a false birthday.

These are dumb kids on a power trip but sadly there’s not much VRChat can do directly unless they get reported in-client for harassment.

I think a lot of the pushback coming from these people on ego trips stems from the assumption that because the system isn’t flawless it can’t be trusted. It’s some really assbackwards logic but hey they’re looking for power so thinking realistically about it isn’t high on the agenda.

Groups are just enforcing a FCC ruling called Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). If social media platforms do not follow the act, it can mean big fines for that company. Even Alphabet. the company that own Google and YouTube has been fined for violating Coppa. The platform is 13+ for a reason. Groups are only trying to enforce rules that are enforced by VRChat, and enforced by Coppa. As a group mod who runs 13+ group public instances. I do not ask unless I have probable cause to suspect. Sound like a child, you might be a child. Act like a child, you might be a child.

The ToS and Creator Guidelines allow groups to set their own rules for their instances e.g., requiring age verification beyond VRChat’s system.

The only way it goes against Vrchats ToS is if the group used a third party system to get the DOB or posted them publicly online without consent
