I think it’s easy for anyone that regularly explores worlds. There’s easily dozens of thousands of gorgeous or interesting worlds. Having the fav list maxed out means I no longer can utilize it and I don’t want to regularly remove worlds which I wanna keep saved for a reason.
the vrc devs can’t change the quest hardware ![]()
I’m glad that more moderation is being exercised in public worlds
Any word on new methods of sharing avatars? For example Group only avatars that can be used only by insert role name only or something similar? Only asking as there was clarification of avatar sharing
Not sure if it’s allowed to be linked, but you could always use something like VRCList, and keep your in-game lists to those you actually want to frequent.
How does “no explicit textures/geometry” effect private avatars that remove those parts through things like opacity masks or geometry masks? There’re a couple of unity tools that you can use to remove geometry and textures for things like clipping, would this be sufficient?
is that referring to like a toggle or does it like destructively edit the Avatar to remove that geometry before upload
For private avatars, please re-review the statement we make. You’re confusing the advice we’re giving for Public vs Private.
Either way, I can’t speak for build-time tools such as those that modify meshes and textures at build-time. Please investigate the addons you use and evaluate this yourself. The key is that the textures and geometry on uploaded public VRChat avatars may never contain those types of assets.
Sorry, used the wrong word, meant public. Thanks for the clarification.
Why not just make it simple and implement content gating? You (VRC) have all the tech already in the game to do so but have been reluctant to enable content gating (checking off the boxes in the editor) to actually be tied behind 18+ verification.
This seems like a TOS & content guideline issue that has a technical solution.
The only reason I can guess why it hasn’t been done yet is VRC is looking to sell to a buyer and wants to look G rated.
So this is why me and other friends have gotten a bunch if “a user, a word, a group associated with a report has been actioned upon” this last 2 weeks lol. Good to know they have better tools for it <3
As a mod for a big comunity that logs every ban we make from there, the amount of people that straight lie about their reason for getting banned, and then make excuses after they find out there is recordings of their offense and such, is rediculouse :/
I would love a better way outside of DMCAing to report stollen / TOS broken content though.
Ive even made reports of people straight admiting to breaking tos in their profile bios, but none of those have gone through :[
Can we please have a progress report soon? I havent heard any news about it in a while.
I’m glad we’re finally getting more transparency on moderation actions. I don’t think the controversy over the increase of suspensions these past couple weeks has been so much about being suspended but rather more about not knowing the reason why. Allowing moderators to inform users about their suspension or ban is a huge improvement, though curious why it wasn’t implemented already.
I’m all for the increase in moderation, for the longest time it felt like submitting a report was akin to throwing it into the void. I would like to see more categories on the report menu, particularly one for reporting underage users.
“Machine learning (not generative AI!)” generative AI is machine learning too, but don’t who would think it’s generative AI if it’s clearly recognition AI. People are little bit psycho about AI, obviously auto-moderation (not just AI) needs human supervision, just because AI is used does not mean there no human judgment involved.
Great insight. You aren’t wrong! I don’t have an answer for you yet.
Unfortunately, the nature of handling licensing disputes (aka, “stolen content” or “TOS broken” – these are all forms of licensing disputes) is very regulated. We have the follow the process documented by the DMCA or else we lose critically vital protections we have as a platform.
Trust me, I feel the pain. I’ve submitted DMCAs before and they’re a huge pain - but they’re necessary.
Machine learning is a component of generative models, LLMs, etc. They’re “earlier in the tech tree” is how I usually think about it.
ML is a type of tech that’s been around for decades. We’re being super pedantic in our phrasing because the public definition of AI is incredibly broad and thus basically useless when it comes to demonstrating nuance ![]()
Hi, I’m the administrator of RBN. I wrote the all the group’s custom software and website.
In the case of RBN, the group is an adults-only hangout group which allows anyone to host instances. We close all non age verified instances as well as closing any worlds that violate the VRChat terms of service.
Members of our group choose to host many different types of lobbies - for example the group hosted over 600 Slashco lobbies in the last month. The group does not and has never encouraged the use or display of any explicit or terms of service breaking material. We are, however, a group of mature adults that are only interested in the company of other mature adults.
Someone (not the owner) at one point did host lobbies that were named explicit things, and the group (and the owner, even though they did not type those words or host the instance) was indeed moderated for it. We have since doubled down on consent as the result of today’s post since it implies that the group owner is responsible for all group content - even that which they do not personally create.
Scenes like you’ve described would be breaking our group rules about disruptive and unsafe actions as well. We have updated our rules as the result of this post, as well as making additional software changes to better enforce content and consent rules of the group, and it should not be possible for any of what happened previously to happen again.
We take consent seriously and use (and encourage all members to use) every tool VRChat gives us to tell people about the group. If any person sees anything in any of RBN’s lobbies which needs moderation action, we encourage you to visit our website and report it to us so that we may action it appropriately. RBN’s main goal is the safety of the mature community we harbor.
Your Community Guidelines are in direct contradiction to your Terms of Service:
13.2. Prohibited Conduct.
By using the Platform, you agree not to:
d. Post, upload, or distribute any User Content or other content that is unlawful, defamatory, libelous, inaccurate, or that a reasonable person could deem to be objectionable, profane, indecent, pornographic, harassing, threatening, embarrassing, hateful, or otherwise inappropriate;
Your Terms of Service do not have a clause protecting behavior in Private instances, nor does it make exceptions in cases of mutual consent. In fact, there is no mitigating clause at all: By your own terms, all content that is “objectionable, profane, indecent, pornographic” etc. is forbidden (“you agree not to…”) and we must agree to never show it to anybody (“post, upload, or distribute…”).
So please stop lying to people about the wrongful fact that private instances or private behavior is somehow protected or shielded from moderation. It is not. And in fact, you yourself have stated that you make no exceptions for reports coming from private instances.
Just come clean and say how things really are: Any and all sexual content is forbidden on VRChat, everywhere, all the time, and anybody can catch a ban for it anywhere, all the time, regardlesss of whether they’re in a private or public setting, regardless of their intent, regardless of other parties’ consent. AND YOUR MODERATION TEAM CAN AND WILL ACT UPON THIS FACTUAL STATE OF YOUR RULES.
instead of worlds it should’ve been avatars since no ones really using the world favorites system anymore, it’s been a dead feature, make it to where vrc+ subscribers can have 500 avatar slots instead of 300
“For Private avatars, it is your responsibility to not use sexually explicit features in public instances or in spaces where you cannot validate the consent of everyone present.”
This is, in a way, a double edged sword.. a very very dull one, but still. I absolutely agree with keeping public instance safe for everyone, and personally I will make efforts to keep my private avatars as safe for work as possible, or make specifically sfw version for them, but here’s the thing:
- We have content tags that serve that exact purpose. I can try and test as hard as I can to ensure no shader errors or pc/quest sync issues happen, but i’m not a professional game dev here, just a guy that first learned unity to change colors on clothing. I’m a lot better than I used to be by a long shot, but still. Errors happen. Bugs completely out of my control happen. Ensuring that users are well aware of content tags and use them correctly, just as much as you expect us to tag our avatars correctly, is absolutely necessary.
- I avoid blender like its the plague. I can easily and quickly censor textures, but I simply dont have the knowledge to edit my avatars in blender and make them 100% sfw. If im expected to fully censor everything I wear in public, and risk being heavily punished if I dont, an official, vrchat curated tutorial on how to do so, is frankly not even a question of yes or no at this point: it’s necessary. I’m happy to follow rules, but I need help. And everyone that even needs to google how to save a unity project, even more than me. Please make it happen.
Your own Terms of Service, and indeed your Community Guidelines, make no distinction between 18+ verified instances and “regular” instances open to everyone including underage people.
Once again, I have to stress that you are giving out advice that is in direct contradiction to VRChat’s Terms of Service! We must agree to never distribute material that could be seen as inappropriate, indecent, or pornographic! These restrictions apply across your entire platform, as per your own Terms of Service!
Running an inappropriate/indecent/pornographic activity in an 18+ verified instance does not protect people from being reported for these activities! Engaging in such activities in private does not protect people from being reported for these activities!
Per your platform’s Terms of Service, WE SIMPLY ARE NOT ALLOWED to engage in these activities, PERIOD. And you have amply demonstrated that your moderation team will act on what your TOS say, NOT what you are announcing in your press releases or other ad copy material.
