Developer Update - 14 August 2025

Well, it was nice while it lasted. I wasn’t really using it anymore, but while it was a big part of the early days or VRChat and some impressive stuff managed to come out of it, it was very limited in what you could do and often times relied on janky hacks in order to do certain stuff that’s given in SDK3.

I’ll probably will miss some of the old worlds made with it if they ever have to dissapear. I don’t think that I’ll really be missing SDK2 itself since while it does require a bit more learning SDK3 is still superior in every way.

Great to see the website getting some bugfixes, that one issue for inviting people to invite-only groups really was bothering some communities hah! Appreciate the work y’all doing around here :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Stay safe and make sure to stay hydrated!! :3

We don’t currently plan to block SDK2 content from loading entirely, but if something major goes wrong and we run out of options, we might have to.

Holy shit this would be horrible.

I’m still not able to get my 3.0 right… it’s more difficult and I always run in to issues. It hurts. orz

what happens to some of the old stuff that vrchat as a company has uploaded that hasn’t been migrated from sdk 2 to sdk 3 IF the time comes to completely deprecate sdk 2 in the future, worlds like old hub come to mind when asking this, would some of these old and sometimes really special worlds/avatars be migrate or be left unavailable?

Can we get stats on how many people still upload SDK2 & use SDK2 worlds & avatars?

Over the years, we’ve heard feedback that SDK3 isn’t as user-friendly as SDK2, especially for newer creators.

Right now, we don’t have plans to add in functionality from SDK2 – our roadmap for creators is pretty locked in right now.

If you believe that your avatars aren’t getting through server processing for some reason, you could always send those avatar IDs to our support team.

If they’re broken due to changes we’ve made, though, it’s not super likely that we’d make an effort to fix them. SDK2 has been deprecated for a long time!

Would it be possible to have an old version of VRChat available if a day comes where SDK2 needs to be removed? This way people can at least visit their old creations.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to read the replies before asking questions. My bad.
