Developer Update - 11 April 2024

Yup!! I’m not sure why they don’t make a section on the website where you can view an avatar’s stats on the site for both PC a n d Quest. would make it so nomatter if your a quest avi maker or PC avi maker, you can see the stats on both platforms, PLUSS you don’t have to be in-game to view the stats! which is a massive pain.

Quest users turn on pretty much any avatar they see these days, so I don’t see why they don’t just use most of PC rank stats for quest too. Medium(PC) is a great aim to be for a casual avatar with props/customisation and would be good as a quest-compatible rank to aim for.

As for the avatar size limit, it’s a matter of knowing how to take down the avi size. there are TONES of easy techniques to take down the material MB and other things, you just gotta know what they are and how to do them. Just sadly a lot of people don’t bother learning. The amount of base avi makers that I see that say they just “Can’t be bothered learning blender” to optimise their stuff frustrates me, especially since it shows they don’t care about the laggy vrc problem they are causing and have no intent on fixing it :(
(An example of a good/hella useful thing: did you know you can make a perfect gradient on an avatar texture using just 2 pixels :D )

My newest avi has 0.33MB of texture on it ^-^ and most of my texture work before that was still under 10MB. A lot of friends of mine are having to re-work their avis to be more optimised due to the new MB limit, so I’m happily going to anyone that’s willing to listen and teaching them optimisation stuffs ^-^

Im hoping vrc fixes this issue soon, while not destroying the game in the process

This and the brightness setting will also be very useful.

Will udon 2 and persistence be added in the same update, or will they be added in separate updates? And is there any rough estimate of when they should enter open beta? Not sure if I should wait with creating new projects for udon 2 or not

I wonder why they are intentionally skipping Udon2 topic :sleepy:

Player Scripts are pretty easy to work with! The workflow is a little different, but I find it convenient not having to manage and recycle pooled objects myself.

CyanPlayerObjectPool objects can be adapted to work with Player Scripts, depending on your level of experience! But it’ll require adapting your other scripts, too, of course. It’s not a drop-in replacement.

Thank you for asking! Quest avatar audio is currently not on our roadmap - but if you’re interest in seeing it in VRChat, please upvote the related Canny post:

Mobile devices struggle with multiple concurrent audio sources at once. Avatar audio may adversely affect the overall performance of VRChat on Quest/Android, which is why we’re so strict about not allowing it. But perhaps we’ll find a better solution in the future?

Sorry for not providing a more detailed update! We’ll share more of our roadmap as we get closer to the release of Udon 2. First, Persistence needs to be tested. We’ll get feedback from our testers and then release it. Our plan is to release Udon 2 soon after.

We already have a list of features we’d like to implement after Udon 2 has been released, such as the ability to create custom Graph nodes with C#. We’ll also gather feedback to iterate as our creators put Udon 2 through its paces. Of course, we’ll be fixing bugs throughout the process!

We’re working on it!:muscle:
It’s difficult to give an estimate because releasing on Android requires making a lot of changes to our SDK, too. iOS isn’t based on Windows or Android, which complicates things.

With these emote animations more then ever we need custom emotes to be separated from player icons and banners in the safety settings. We should also have the ability to mute individual player chat boxes without either fully muting players are using the overly general friend/everyone filter.

A Group system with functionality kind of like Secondlife might be neat. The ability to assign a group to a specific world, allowing those with certain roles and permissions in the group to access moderation tools in public instances currently only available only to the world creator.

also is udon analytics completely scrapped now? or will it be part of udon 2? the joke jam was like 2 years ago

I’m not asking about the VRChat API, because that’s unofficial and unsupported, but has anything changed relative to the exposure of certain variables on the backend that the API accesses? Some of my things no longer work and my code hasn’t changed.

theres already a local option users can disable to show the old fallbacks instead of an impostor

as Merlin-san left, will be u2 development affected?

Is it possible that Texture Streaming System will be enabled in 2024.2.2?

Previously the developers stated that they had resolved the issue, so we were curious to see if it was coming.

There are also many concerns about the departure of Udon2’s main developer.

Project issues are always complex.

now for a much needed change: remove group public instances all together please ;)

Let me guess, you or people you are friends with got banned from one or more Groups that run a lot of Public instances for [reasons] and you want to go back to the way things were before as to not deal with this side effect?

If this is for other reasons please enlighten me since often when I see people complaining about Group Publics it comes down to some combination of the above.

I’d say a better approach would be that a world creator should be able to set a group in which they are an admin as the “official” world group, whose instances will always show up at the top of the list… that way e.g. the Pug could run things the way they want to, and people who just choose the top instance in the list wouldn’t end up going to an instance run by “Moderation for Safety Worldwide” (group name made up, to not pick on any group in particular, but rather to pick on all such groups at once).

I can sympathize with the concerns about group public instances. Removing them probably isn’t the right solution, but I’m sure it’s something that could be refined.

It’s not scrapped, but we’re not working on it right now! The system from the Joke Jam turned out to be unsuitable due to technical issues.

Though I’m confident we’ll release a world analytics system eventually, and I’m glad we already experimented with it.

It’s still planned, though it might not be in release 2024.2.2! Fingers crossed.:crossed_fingers:

We’re still working on it! We hope you’ll get to try it yourself soon. (We’ll need to release Persistence first, though!)
