Avatar is built, but doesnt appear in VRChat

I am extremely new to VRChat avatar creation. This is my first model and upload. The rig seems to be fine per the configuring in the rig tab, and it allows me to build the model, but when I go to use it, the thumbnail does not show and my model appears as a long shape as seen in the preview (see uploaded image). When I apply the avatar and move the mouse, the camera moves very fast as well. I’m not sure what other information is important here, but I will provide whatever is necessary.

I am actively looking for solutions and trying things out. I appreciate any help offered, and I’ve been having a lot of fun with all this. Thank you!

Why not check the VR CHAT SDK Builder? I think the reason your avatar is invisible to others is because the visibility is set to private. Additionally, if you can’t see your avatar in the personal mirror, there might be a mistake in the settings prior to that.

As for the avatar thumbnail not being displayed, I think it’s because you haven’t done online publishing.

Is the language near the build and test functionality not clear? If you have suggestions, please file a feature request.

The first option to do a build and test should explain that it’s a local build of an avatar. The reason it’s under other is because it’s not actually available to VRChat as a service. “SDK: buddy” is an avatar that when selected only you see. Everyone else sees the last proper avatar you were wearing.

Hopefully you’ve noticed the section for uploading an avatar to VRChat, where there is a check box, and then you can build and upload

Edit: I took a closer look at the screenshot and see a 1 next to “uploaded” so you have something there too. Either the uploaded avatar or something older.

Turns out I didn’t have FBX Units Scale selected when exporting the file. That fixed everything. My model was in the wrong scale and that’s why it wasn’t appearing properly in VRChat.

Thank you everyone who replied to me!
