Do avatars have to be one mesh to be Unity-ready?

Dumb n00b question:

When I create an avatar model and rig it in Blender, does it have to all be one mesh before I can start working with them in Unity? Or can I have different parts of the model be in separate objects?

You can but you should keep the avatars one mesh for performance reasons.

It all depends on the complexity of the mesh and blend shapes, but yes one mesh is recommended.
On rare occasions, it’s actually better to have the face and body as separate meshes.

Same goes for materials, you want to keep that as low as possible.

ok, thanks for clearing things up!
