Developer Update - 29 February 2024

If it is world-based I don’t think the option can be in the same place as the clear cache buttons.

Also while we are chatting about it… I and many others clear the cache on a regular basis when using a Quest or we run an easily demonstrated risk of failing to load a world and being booted back to our home world. The clear cache options are “too far away” to be used effectively for something that needs to be done so often. That said I’ve asked before if “clear cache on world exit” could be an option. We don’t really care or notice the difference in load time and we waste all that time when the 3rd or 4th 70MB world crashes one of our group and they are forced to go through the steps at that time.

The world works on perks and payment for services. I don’t see anything inherently wrong with buying “assets” and disk space is an asset. It is not unlike service tiers on your phone, at your bank, insurance company and/or whatever else.

That said there is a design flaw in the way it is implemented currently, i.e. emulating “folders”. If I want to pay for 200 favorites (or up it to 300) I don’t want another folder’s worth. I just want more space. If this was disk space on Google drive I wouldn’t order a E: F: or G: drive I would simply want a larger repository.

The favorites (and avatars) should be based on filters not location. Location is the most limited way to categorize things. There is exactly one category. Filtering however means we can view our list by whatever filter criteria is available. If one adds tags the options are even greater as I can add “these suck” as a tag choose to view them or not. We can add a tag for “games” and tag the worlds we want and filter on that tag “regardless of what folder of favorites it is in”.

And I can’t document all these things but I was just on my account and while I could seemingly change the sort (I was moving some worlds between folders) there didn’t seem to be an alpha order available.

If there are options for ordering (and there should be) there should be “inverse” ordering for each of them also.

Is there any way I can get more info on how the ragdolling works internally, like what components are used for the actual physics calculations and what layer the rag doll is assigned to. Is the rag doll even attached to the root player object or is it placed in world space. These are some of the things I simply cannot find documentation for anywhere.

The thing I want to be able to do the most is (assuming it uses rigid bodies) be able to change the settings of the individual rigid bodies, cause I am afraid that having the combat system enabled at all will break some avatars that have things like spring joints, although I never tested this yet. Ok that’s all the yapping I’m going to do for this reply

Persistence could be useful for role playing worlds

Definitely! Being able to save your progress will be suuuuch a huge game-changer.

And save players a ton of hassle

How does one get access to the Udon 2 closed beta? I would like to try it out as I have been a creator for a while and would like to test the capabilities of UDON 2 before it comes out, and report any bugs.

The closed beta is currently an invite-only, but we’re considering taking applications for new testers. We’ll keep you updated if we open it up before Udon 2 and Persistence hit closed beta.

Alright, thanks for the info.

Is Udon 2 gonna have something that lets us automatically replace the old “workarounds” with their proper C# forms, like replacing DataLists with Lists and DataDictionaries with Dictionaries? Or are we gonna have to do that manually?

We’ve decided to open up applications for the closed beta for Udon 2 & Persistence!

Please fill out this survey if you’re interested: Online Survey Software: Closed Survey

This will be closed on Monday, March 11 at 10am EDT.

EDIT2: We have now invited certain applicants to the closed beta Discord. Thank you to everyone for your interest! We may consider opening applications up another time.

Normally I’d make a new post but after 14 days the topic closes!

This might be in violation of GDPR, assuming world persistence data could be PII.

No, DataLists and DataDictionaries are not interchangeable in all cases with Lists and Dictionaries so we can’t have automatic handling.
