Developer Update - 27 February 2025

Is marking the input field read only not good enough?

I’m looking forward to soba, but I’d rather the team use the open source results, otherwise it’s going to take too much labor to maintain.

Also, when will the network limit be increased? It seems to limit the amount of objects and data that can be synchronized by more people in the game world.

The current limit of 11KB/s is a bit low, so I’d like to see it opened up to allow for more objects, and I’d also like to see some improvements to the network, which is a bit spartan at the moment.

Can confirm, I had to learn how to make simple U# just to store the variables because of the disparency of QoL when it comes to mass drag&drop with Graph. Things like making an image book is a huge pain having to drag all elements one by one…

And then comes the workarounds for editing an array while communicating with other UdonBehaviors, it’s a headache every single time.

It would be great if the change in inspector UI also came to Graph itself, that’d resolve both issues

Awesome update! Curious if you ever plan to make 18+ Verified Groups since I know it would help with keeping the community safe and hiding certain groups from underage users would be a nice idea.

Why no updates on the IOS version of VRChat? Is it canceled?! I haven’t seen an update on it since May of last year! MAY!

Just because it hasn’t been mentioned in these Developer Updates doesn’t mean it has been abandon, in fact its gotten 5 updates since August of last year, the most recent one not even a week ago! If you wish to read these updates you can opt into the iOS Closed Beta on the official VRChat Discord server then view the updates here: Discord

Why there’s no mention of the built-in optimizer in this topic? You’ve forgotten about getting concerns by said it’ll be enabled by default? You didn’t even (start) consider to make it be disabled by default at least in its initial release?
As others said - please put the built-in optimizer behind opt-in flag on initial release; otherwise you’ll face opposite effect. No matter you want to make it be enabled by default on some point (even near future). so users including me will not affected by bugs in that. You will not able to said “We’ve done w/ betas so it’s applying, you are free to opt-out it if there’s breakage”: Breakage is affect you negatively.
Since you’ve taken long time to fix single bug according to canny, users including me concern it’ll happen on the built-in optimizer.
Anatawa12 and dark, both are author of their optimizers, have said there are edge case on Unity’s asset. They gave a warning on you - don’t ignore that. I think it’s your responsibility to said “we’ve considered” before its release on live channel, at least.

p.s. In general, be able to only previewing before applying the built-in optimizer isn’t enough to check whether there are any breakage by it. This doesn’t change when apply optimization from AAO or d4rk one: please cover about how users can investigate mangled breakage in the document.

Will custom structs support methods?

Will Soba support nullable value types or reference types? I wanna use ?. operator to write method chains more tidy, and track places that need null check via #nullable enable.

I do want to take a moment here and actually expand on an opinion I’ve seen Tupper express before. A lot of people are aware that Discords are a bad replacement for a forum. I would also argue that Discord is a bad replacement for changelogs and announcements.

Do we know if the iOS updates are posted anywhere except Discord? I have noticed the team start to utilize the in-game news/posts section a bit more. Though I do feel the UI could use a bit of a rework. As such, I’ve made a feature request about it found here.

Agreed.

Pretty sure VRChat posts everything generally important elsewhere, when it comes to the closed beta IOS build then it is a closed beta which to me comes with the expectation to join some place to give feedback and receive news, same with open betas.

But clearly they could do with reminding people of things in progress like this.
