Ah, that makes a lot more sense. Thank you for explaining.
For sure. Though I wish they would lean into it a little more. Live on the edge a bit. Laws already exist (or often lack of existence) around certain data collection and liability. I think it’s fair to say that if VRC is already playing one card for those specific worlds, they could play the same card here. It wouldn’t be VRChat’s responsibility if they warn the user ahead of time and provide adequate blocking/testing tools for users to check worlds for abuse.
I just wish all this fear around the issues weren’t so prevalent. I would trust a world even POSTing data (well, as long as I have the ability to block it/whitelist) versus smaller companies otherwise. I remember when I changed my password for my apartment’s account system and they printed my password in plaintext when I went to the office for my move in day.
This is why, for example, I wish we could have things like the near-clip distance to persist on restarts, perhaps from the config file. This way average users don’t run into the issue and it resets for them, but as a power user, I can have it set to “dynamic” all the time, since I very rarely find worlds that will break with dynamic clipping on.
And again, their argument against avatar scaling. They were saying something about “imagine someone scaling themselves while trying to talk to you” or using the scaling feature to annoy users. Yeah, that’s when you use the block button. There are far worse offenses from avatars abusing features. People need to have thicker skin, really.
