Developer Update - 11 August 2022

I thought the visual adjustment, would be for recoloring the UI in general, least this would be a nice feature, as well.

I’m pretty sure when Dante Alighieri walked through Inferno he saw the demons tormenting souls by making them fill out 300 of their avatar slots and keep them filled without a search function.

Obvious hyperbole but that does seem exceedingly painful and tedious.

It makes sense to have it more general for any avatar and totally agree. I just want to make sure they don’t miss the mark in also giving access to it by avatar makers as there are so many direct effects that could be fun and possible. People we already getting creative with ScaleGoesBrr outside of just a slider to change size.

Everyone here is excited for the quality-of-life updates, meanwhile I am still waiting for the “saving world and player” update they mentioned a long while back (for saving in game worlds (or saving variables in those worlds to be loaded back in when players come back into the world) and such) XD

I completely understand why though, and I am happy to wait for it (rightfully so and with good reason with the current climate that VRChat is currently in). But I probably feel alone in mentioning it though since I do agree it has nothing to do with QoL updates, and i assume that it is pushed back just like the “VRChat Travel” update that tupper mentioned (if they could bundle saving with that update though, that would also be nice). It would be nice to know an ETA on that, but I think it wont come for a good while since i know development of any and all features like that do take a lot of time (not to mention the additional server space needed to keep track of all of that saveable data per world/player), so no need to rush :3

I wish you all the best of luck, and continue improving VRChat! <3

You got a point but I think that should be implemented per avatar just like it is already.

I’d recommend obviously asking the event runners if they can provide players and feeds that allow you to select an alternate quality levels and audio only streams. I know Furality for example have buttons for this in their club world during the convention.

This is something that I think should be for world devs to handle.

Blanket killing post-processing though could break some things though where they don’t cause discomfort. For example, using Post processing to provide fade through black transition effects when teleporting a player that can actually minimize discomfort as it would ease sudden changes in brightness between two areas.

Most good worlds provide Post controls anyway and once persistence of settings is a feature, those settings can be stored for next time. If a world provider doesn’t provide general PostProcessing controls though, then players will vote with their feet and not return to a world which causes them discomfort and doesn’t offer the buttons to do so.

THANK YOU for acknowledging avatar scaling, and adding the mirror resolution adjuster! Many of these were features a lot of us didn’t think you were listening to us on - big props for acting on those.

You can hide avatars and block people if you think they are being obnoxious.

something to do with the current UI not being good enough for that kind of thing so they wanna do the UI update first.

Sorry Sal, we weighed this up for a bit and decided that “Show Avatar” should always be the final filter.

If you’ve got it on for someone, you’re saying “damn my other settings, SHOW ME THIS AVATAR.” Changing that now would be wildly confusing and break the UX flow.

That’s not how it’s presented to a lot of users. And you forget on Quest the restrictive handholding and minimum settings, not to mention tight requirements (which are good, for reasons) means a user is more likely to use Show Avatar just to see it.

Hide Avatars Globally is, first and foremost, useful for those who wish to hide uncomfortable or disturbing avatars. It’s also called “Hide Avatars Globally”, which, well, ain’t global if it can be overridden.

I 100% would only use this feature for avatars I find disturbing, uncomfortable, or unsafe. And I have friends who may use such avatars as a joke in group settings. Having Show Avatar override this is a bad precedent for safety.

Being Said, a middle ground is easily found here: Implement “Show Unless Hidden (Globally)” Alongside “Hide Avatar Globally”

This all looks great, the stuff at the end about world creators enabling flight and scaling etc gave me an idea though. The biggest issue with whisper and yell systems (systems that change voice volume) is the risk of people abusing it my maxing their volume and screaming constantly. So including that in the base game has never been advisable. It would be very nice to have that added to the list of toggles world creators can enable though, so we don’t have to patch around the voice system with weird code to impliment it on our end.

A world creator being able to open the Player Mods and define the default volume, the whisper volume, and the yell volume and then just toggle to enable them would be very handy.

Thanks!

I’d love to be able to set the avatar hide distance to 50 meters instead of 30 as the max. I roleplay in large worlds where we’ll be nearing max capacity but there are open spaces where I can see people more than 30 meters away easily. Being able to set it higher would mean I can still see people in my sightline, but I’m hiding people who are really far away that I don’t have any need to have their animator loaded anymore.

Hello
Are you guys planning to add microphone activation threshold ?
I had to use the mod called " MicSensitivity " because i use a pimax and i have to speak extremely loudly for vrc to pickup what i say but with that mod even whispers would be picked up
thank you

love this and im agreeing with others having portal history would be amazing to find those friends in a public when you crash! also (agreeing with another person) avatar searching!! this would be awesome and let people find more expressive public avatars that may not be in a world for any reason:)

Can you elaborate? That is extremely vague and isn’t a reason.

Avatar viewpoint tweaker when?

Very nice update, thank you for these updates. Do you think Ambient Occlusion could be added as a part of visual adjustments too? I would love to be able to enable it in any world. Being able to change the intensity and type would be nice also (SAO/MSVO). Thank you again

already added in the open beta
