Best way to implement bullet holes?

Need help with bullet holes. Right now I have a sub emitter spawn when my bullet particle hits an object. But the problem is the bullet holes are in an angle when looking at 45 degrees. I don’t know how to make it flat as the object it hits. Any help is appreciated.

Does enabling “align to direction” under “Shape” help? I’m still trying to work out how to do impacts properly. I feel as if there is a better method than subemitters.
