Advice on hand tracking needed

Hello all,

I got into 3D sometime ago and decided to create my first VRC character, but unfortunately have been stuck with an issue related to hand tracking.

The hands of my model clip into its body when I relax my own. Below is an image to encapsulate the problem I’m trying to solve.

I’ve attempted offsetting the bones from the mesh but this turned out to be a bad idea. Widening the shoulders also had its own set of problems as they pivoted outward. This can be seen below.


I’m looking for advice on how to approach this. Is there a way to offset the tracking? Is it even a good idea? Wisdom, advice, keywords or link to resource(s) would be extremely appreciated, as this has been haunting me for a few weeks.

If I’ve overlooked something in the docs or one of the the listed tutorials on this please feel free to call me out.
